What did you do for your 968 this week?

The dent is completely flat. Gone. No ripples.

The guy explained that he would be heating the metal a bit, pushing the dent down to the point where it is below the hood level, and back out slowly to level.

The paint is still cracked and the car is now at a paint shop who will look at options to fill or stabilize the cracks and possibly add a clear coat to encapsulate the paint.

I elected to go this route in lieu of repainting the whole hood because the car is so original.

There is a little nipple on the radiator expansion tank that handles return flow to the tank.  It was leaking, but then broke off - see pic.   There is a metal sleeve molded inside the tank plastic, probably just years of wear and vibration caused it to fail.   I found a used tank locally in town, since I wanted a quick repair so our holiday visitors could use the car.  It was also lightly cracked in a few visible places.  We reinforced that failed nipple with some epoxy -- who knows maybe that will help.  My 968 has well over 200K miles, so yes, as the years and miles add up, we'll all have this failure.   I'll keep you guys posted on what goes wrong after 200K miles.  :whine:

The tank is still available as a new part but not cheap at about $180

And I called the local Porsche dealer.   They quoted $275.00 and their parts system showed nothing anywhere in the US.   The closest is in Germany, but they can get one.

I finished my airbox mod last week but havent been able to drive the car until today.

Its hard to tell whether there is any additional power, but it seems eager to rev and I like the increase in intake sound as well.

A chip will be next in the performance enhancement category, but first I am going to dive into the dash and figure out whats wrong with my outside air temperature gauge, and maybe improve the instrument panel lighting.

Installed my new (used) temperature readout in my dash.

I procured it from a small vendor of used (mostly 944) parts I found on Rennlist.

Replacing front brakes. StopTech rotors arrived. Now just waiting for wear sensors. Fluid flush and brake lines will be next.

Well, i always park my car where I think it is less likely to get hit or have someone "ding", it. TOday I saw an old lady (doesn't matter to me what sex she was) BACKINg out by my car. I PARKED THERE because it was the farthest and only spot available... And only had one spot available next to it when I went into the store...

She stopped, rolled down her window and asked me "am I alright". I said "you're driving, you should know". I yelled " stop. I'll move my car.

(a few years ago, I was in a shopping center (not moving) waiting to turn and had to watch another old lady (78?) make a left turn into the shopping center and proceed to hit my left quarter panel.

So today I maybe saved a 968's body work.

Hope that counts for this topic...

I always wonder if parking away from other cars is worth the time and effort. While I don’t experience the old ladies, sexism is alive and well, I invariably get a car parked next to mine.

Installed a rear view camera. After a lot of trial-and-error, I decided to wire the LCD monitor through the coin cubby. The monitor attaches to a magnetic phone mount so I can pop it out when I'm in a tricky reverse situation. The rest of the time it lives in the cubby when driving. It's not perfect but it was the best solution I could come up with that was relatively non-destructive or permanent.

Also changed out the power steering fluid. Old fluid was BLACK. Took about 20 minutes to drain/refill the reservoir a few times. Steering is definitely lighter at parking lot speeds. Should have done it a long time ago.

I took the 968 out of the garage and ran it and the race car while I cleaned the targa. We had temps in the low 50’s so I took advantage and killed a couple of birds with one stone. Gee I hope that’s not a politically or sexually insensitive comment. I went back thru my yearbook to make sure I wasn’t in any trouble.

Thanks for the reminder to do that . And glad I did, because I found a perfect defense - all the girls who signed the book with " K.I.T " , is solid proof that they asked me to " touch " them, and to continue doing so !!

I sent my Cup2 wheels out for refinishing (powder coating), and purchased new tires as well (Continental ExtremeContact Sport).

With the wheels refinished the center caps looked bad due to scratches and fading, so I refinished those myself with wheel paint and Testors enamel for the Porsche insignia.

I also performed a blink test to check for codes. It showed 1-5 meaning no stored codes.
