What did you do for your 968 this week?

Washed and waxed her, and took her out to a show. A car show, specifically. Only one other 968 there, amidst a (literal) field of 911's from every era. I chose the exhibition class, which after I realized that there were only two possible entries in the award class, I felt kind of stupid. Worst I could have done was second place. Kind of reminded me of racing H-Production with three other cars in the class. Funny how few of these "Porsche" people knew what a 968 was, or any of the history of the model.

When you tell a story facts like the number of entrants are not material. A first or second place finish is!!! Good looking car.

Can’t appropriate. Good lord. I’m like a perfect democrat taking what isn’t mine at no cost. If you’re on either coast this is supposed to be kosher!

Had a new windshield installed, my old one was cracked during the drive over to the West Coast Gathering. Insurance company approved replacement with Porsche-supplied glass.

Had our annual 968 meet up here in the UK, for something different we had a guided tour of the DeHavilland Mosquito museum

Apparently it is the only place in the world that has the first prototype in the hanger it was designed and built in, 75 years later

Good day out

The annual Novato Nostaglia took place this last weekend. The 968 was the only Porsche

among 300 cars

That’s quite unusual to see the numbers painted in on the gear knob

I believe all 944s had that knob, have not yet seen a 968 with one..although I have not seen that many 968's interiors  .

My cap looks the same, but the numbers faded a long time ago. Wonder if I can fill in the depression...hmmm

I don't see why not - you can find  broad, medium , or find fine point   " paint pens "  in a variety of colors, ( I know they're available in white, black, silver, gold , red, etc.. ) I'm sure silver is one of the most popular ones..

And, silver will make my car faster, right?

Yup, 5 speed , I had  two 944s.  But except for that # 6 painted symbol, the knob in the photo looks exactly 5/6 the same as the 944 ones.  Blush  Tongue

Well guys, you have not seen a painted gear knob on a 968. I do not have a regular 968...just so you know!!.....just kidding I actually painted the groove white. How was it done?...... I pulled to cap plastic cover out. Then I spray painted it and right away rubbed off the surface with paint thinner on a cloth. Very simple and now a three year old job.

Slowly cleaning up the "Amethyst Dazzler" for her first Concourse show in September. The new rules will have a separate category for "Unrestored" cars. The cars must be at least 21 years old and 75% unrestored to qualify.....It should be fun to see how she fares.

The one I attended a couple weeks ago was very interesting. They had the 968s in with the 924s, 944s, and 928s, and there was only one other car in that group, a very nice 968 coupe. Plus, they had Street, fully restored, partial restored, survivor, and a couple other classes. I could have entered mine in at least three different classes, and taken first in two of them just because there was no one else in the class.

Belt job. After 5 years and about 40.000 km the Conti belts held out just fine. Cam belt, BB and alternator belt looked like they were still in great shape, the V-belt's rubber obviously has had it's best days. The rubber was cracked.

This time I used Porsche OEM. The V-belt is Gates and the BB shows only the PET-nr. The other two are Dayco.

The BB sure is much quieter than the Conti belt when installed new.

I will check the BB's tension after 4000 km.
