Have no fear- I always keep the sunny side up and keep my distance / space from the nut jobs. No more dangerous than driving a car every day of my life...

I opted against the next model up with the larger engine... Mine is a 600 with approx. 120HP whereas the 800 powermill boasts over 160! And, to add further insult to injury, this particular manufacturer's 600cc offering is rather anemic by the rest of the market's offerings.

They are a boat-load of fun, but command tremendous respect for sure. Quite a feeling blasting across a frozen lake @ 95mph, sun high in the sky, rays glistening off the ice and snow. Or, heading out at 6am, with the temp in the single digits, nobody else around and carving up the trails through the forest. Totally serene! So far, no bears have crossed a trail in front of me... Knock on wood!!!!

P.S. Jay- haven't forget that I need to shoot you an email re: dobes. Will probably visit a breeder next week to start to establish a relationship.

Very nice Jim. I had a sled for a bit when I lived in Alaska. Sometimes I wish I lived in an area that actually had a winter....but then I remember how it was dark for half the year. Snow Machines are a lot of fun, and you are right about demanding respect. Are there many snow machine trails out there?

I live in California now so I had to take the second best option and go with the supercharger [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img] I am pretty excited, picking her up from the barn on Saturday! If you drive by the barn before then, feel free to take her for a spin around the block and see what you are missing. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img]

Wish I could make it over to Pete's to test drive your car! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif[/img] I am sure it will be a boat-load of fun!!!

I'm anxious to get my sled, but apprehensive about towing. Never done it. The load isn't too heavy- probably around 1700 lbs total for the trailer, my sled and my neighbor's sled. Neighbor has an F150 and I'll be getting my wife's Pilot when she gets her new car this Spring. Need to pick up the sled in Upstate NY and bring it home to PA.

Then wait for the white stuff.

Upstate NY has many, many miles of trails in and around Old Forge - hundreds of miles. NE PA also has a couple hundred miles of groomed trails. That's what I ride- I don't do ditch banging and all that jazz. There's also Canada, but you need to be real careful because I hear there are a lot of thefts up there. Hopefully I'll hook up with some people who ride Canada and know what to do as I would love to hit the trail system around Montreal in the next couple of years.

I used to ride VT and Canada when I lived up north. Canada's trail's are awsome, there like highway's up there.

Yeah, that's what I heard. Plus, there's hundreds even thousands of miles of groomed trails in Canada. Not to mention breath-taking views!

From what I have read, many hotels along the trails offer different levels of security for overnight parking and such. Guess sleds, trailers, and even rigs are all fair game! That would completely suck!

For some closer action, take a look at Potter County. Melva and I have been renting a cabin near Coudersport, PA. They call it god's country, and it is the only certified "dark Sky" area on the East Coast.

I rode a sled when I was a kid. The 18hp was a big gunner back then as I recall. I am lucky to have made it to puberty to be honest. Those things were beasts.

WRT towing you'll be fine. 1700 lbs behind either of those vehicles will be next to not noticable. I trailered boats for years. Just make sure you have a pro install a good quality hitch. I was always more comfortable with a class III, which is massive overkill for your application, but I liked the additional attachment points that come with the bigger system.

Yes, there are a bunch of trails / trail systemsin Potter County. Probably won't make it there this season, but will be on the radar for next!

I've basically got the OEM towing package for the Pilot - rated for 5000 lbs I believe. Good to hear that 1700 lbs is next to nothing! I'm sure my gas tank will disagree!!! Price you have to pay I suppose!
