Turbo S
#1

This has to be not only a record price for a 968, but (as the article states) for any front-engine Porsche.

The world's most expensive front-engine Porsche | Hagerty Insider and the original auction listing - 1993 Porsche 968 Turbo S | Gooding & Company (goodingco.com)

Granted, it is a Turbo S, but wow....

Wow, great price, but then again, rarity and exclusivity drives prices through the roof .

Wait, what do they mean 14 ( fourteen ) factory turbos were built ?!!   I thought there were only 6.   And 2 turbo RS  ones.   Is that incorrect ?

According to The 968 Register, there were 15 Turbo Ss and 4 Turbo RS :

"Porsche briefly produced a turbocharged version called Turbo S—15 were produced in total, and again the car was only sold in Europe. The 968 Turbo S was capable (in 1993) of 0–60 mph in 4.7 s and top speeds approaching 180 mph (290 km/h). A race variant called 968 Turbo RS was added as well; only 4 were produced."

I suspect 14 was the factory number, 15 includes a prototype.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.  As the adage goes,  “ learn something new every day . “ . Blush  .

Interesting that we haven’t heard about any more than two ever having been sold .. maybe the rest of the 12 original owners are still hanging on to the cars,  because you’d think anything that rare being sold would surely make the automotive world news .. the prototype is no doubt in the Porsche museum ..or a private car museum,

It’s a big shame these wonderful rare cars just get locked away to drool over by the owners or just as an investment

Nick Mason has the right idea, let’s get out there and race my 250GTO or GTB or whatever it is, it’s only worth £36,000,000
