tire choices
#1

My '92 coupe is fitted with a set of Carrera 17" wheels that came with Continental 205/50/17s on the front, 255/40/17s on the rear. I replaced the worn out rears with Bridgestone RE 730s in the same size, and these tires were soon dropped from Bridgestone's line and aren't available. I'm getting a lot of tire noise with this mismatched set up and would like to replace all four tires, with narrower tires in the rear, particularly, to reduce the drone. At age 70 (in a few days), I'm not performance minded. I'm looking for suggestions for a tire set that will give a good ride with minimal noise. This is a Florida car.

For 17" rims the right dimentions for our 968 are 225/45 in front and 255/40 at the rear.

I like Pirelli P Zero Nero for overall performance and particular the best in low noise.

Another tire that has given me very good results as a daily driver tire is the Michelin Pilot Exalto. They give me good mileage, have a quiet ride and are very good in the rain. My Goodyear F1 GSD3 has become very noisy as the tire wears and I would not recommend them. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
