My 16's have Nitto NT 450's on them. They are good overall tires, but I find that I am happier with the 17" wheels, which I now run year round. My plan was to run the 16's in winter, but I find the 17's work fine, so why bother changing them?

what are your thoughts on ride quality, performance, aesthetics, etc?

Aesthetics: I think the car looks much better with the 17s. I have 5 mm spacers on each corner to move the wheels out just a little bit to fill the wheel well better. Performance: much better with the 17s. Ride quality: hardly any different, but my 16s were old and rubber was getting hard, so it's an unfair comparison.

My 951 has continental extreme contact on it. Great tire but a little noisy

On my 968 with 17" rims i've always had Bridgestones Potenza S02's.

On other cars i usually run with Dunlop Sportmaxx which give me also a lot of confidence in the dry and in the wet.

But it's different for everybody for what they like and which tyre gives a lot of confidence and which doesn't.

When i bought my 968 back in 2000 it had 16" rims with the Continental tyre's on, i never liked them.

Too noisy and not so much grip, but that's my experience with them.

Regards,

Jack

When I was running the 16"s I liked Toyo T1Rs the best.

I have the contact sports, I agree that they are noisy but I find they have great grip.  I think there has been a compound change since 2000.  Compared to the Bridgstones on my 968 that tramline like crazy I like them better but I have very little other tires to compare them to.

That's why i said that it's diferent for everybody, it's a personal preference.

Tyre's and compounds are updated all the time, but once you have a bad experience with one you won't like to go and try them again.

The Bridgestone's give me a lot of confidence and feedback, daring to go 220+ km/h on a wet german autobahn.

Maybe the Continentals will do the same these day's, but i'm not going back.

I thinking of trying out next time the Michelin PS 2's, which should have more grip and less noice and a beter ergonomic as well.

Well.... I ended up with some 17x7 boxster twists. I'm in love. They came with newish Conti extreme contacts. Ride quality over the reproduction 18x8 & 18x10s is a night and day improvement. The rears need some spacing out and I have a couple 25mm coming Monday. I'll be looking for some 17x8s to have for sport driving, but these are awesome for the street. I finally got the rear end to rotate a little through a fast sweeper and the driving dynamics are awesome. SWEET

oh man we got a popcorn eater....."here ad there" -no. I was hustling around on the new set up and found them very communicative at the limit. I will probably grab a wet set next.

Popcorn eaters are from the other side of the ocean, not here but there indeed.

Wish you a lot of fun with them, keep on communicating.

Looking for clarity on tyre specs as I need replacements all around .... I have stock 16" rims ..... compared with you guys I probably drive like a pussy  :whine:  :whine:

Presently running Continentals which were put on by the PO:

Front 205/55 91W and rear 225/55 95W

Why /55 95W on the rear??

a) 91W or 95W Is the additional load rating because I have a cabrio? Is it necessary?  Given the famed weight distribution I would have thought the same loading and tyre pressure all around.

b ) /55 instead of /50 .... the tyre is slightly bigger and hence my speedo is about 4% "slow" and the handling a little sloppier.

I'm trying to understand why the PO did what he did ..... or maybe it was just what was available and were "good enough".

Any thoughts??? (apart from about my driving :glare:  :glare: )

Thanks, Robert

Thanks, I thought that was the case ...... any idea if the Cab requires 95 instead of 91 at the rear?  I know the cab is heavier because of additional bracing to compensate for the lack of roof, but surly that bracing is mainly distributed between the wheels, ie under where the roof is on a coupe?

It was probably tire availability that PO got the 55s. Cab is not that much heavier to require different tires than coupe.
