S.E.M.A. show find
#1

Found a booth with a material only boot that fits over the wheel and adds traction for snow travel.

All cloth means no scratched wheels, chain sound, chain thumpity thump ride and issues with fender clearance.

My Seattle daily driver has been left at the bottom of the hill at least once each snow season.

Check it out at http://www.autosock.com/

Cost $100.

Brian

Interesting - and useful beyond the 968. If you look in the PET, there's a section - I think it's Accessories, I don't remember for sure - that shows snow chains as an OEM option for the 968.

OT, but Brian, I wish we would have started a SEMA thread before the event - I was there also ! Had I known you ( or any other 968-ers for that matter ) attended, we could have arranged for a meet !

Good idea. I go every year. Candy store for me. Also could not miss a visit to the Ferrari dealership inside Wynn. flash threatened last year but got hung up in other projects.

Absolutely ! The twins at the Toyo Tire booth in particular were.... Oh, wait you mean cars ?

The Giambala GT, The R8 with the real two-tone ( as opposed to just the side segment color contrast ) ,

the new F 599 ( the red one is owned by Steve Wynn's group C.O.O. ) , the black one should be in my garage , I love the new Jag ( black one to which they were applying window tint ) though I find it a bit annoying they completely stole the design from the DB9, but then again that's why it looks so fantastic, the rhinestone covered $ 1 mil Mercedes was a hoot but you couldn't pay me a million to drive that around town, the 427 Cobras were too cool for words, Danica Patrick looks far better in photos than in person, I'm sure I'm missing a few cars which made my jaw drop but I'm drawing a blank right now, and as far as the thousands of after market goodies are concerned... don't even get me started

Fun, fun, fun.

I know what you mean! If ANY of these cars were in a parking lot we'd spend 30 - 45 minutes looking at it, but at the SEMA show there are so many that you treat them like breasts after 5 or 6 hours at Mardi Gras!

Looked into those. Heard from two people they really don't work. What might be of interest is spike spiders. They are an alternative to chains. No jacking up car, they atach to special lug nuts. You set up the attachments before the winter and then pop the main piece on when you need. They supposedly work in snow up to about 4". Saturn dealers on the west coast were putting them in their new cars. Ebay has them. I picked up a set but have not tried them in snow yet. Seems they are popular on the West coast and unheard of on the East.

When does Seattle get any real snow though? I love the snow and get jealous when everywhere around Seattle gets snow but those of us in Seattle itself hardly see a flake. I'm hoping for a white Christmas when I visit my folks this year.

Seattle is nearer to the Sound, which makes it warmer. The snow increases when you move east to Sammamish, north or up into the mountain passes. The mountains are on a snow alert for a Pacific storm moving in tonight or tomorrow.

Last year I got caught in snow coming home from downtown Seattle; lasted 2-3 days before we could get up and down the hills to work.
