Hi AZ,

No wrenches thru walls, but oh what a scattered mess of parts, tools and stuff i now have to clean up and put away.

Went to the local Quaker steak and lube car night with the fam tonite.

First impressions:

While the supercharger is in the break-in period, I'm not to exceed 4000 RPM, but even so, as others have said, the effect seems subtle at first, and then you realize how quickly you exceeded 80 mph!

and why everyone else seemed to be going so slow, that you thought there must be a speed trap ahead...

I wasn't sure where to post my request, but I really could use some help with reinstalling my D1R supercharger.

I have a '95 968 with a previously installed Design 1 Racing supercharger that I need to reinstall following a front end collision. Bob Larson (Flash) closed down his Design 1 Racing business & website, moved out of the country & apparently can no longer be reached.

The Installation manual does not adequately illustrate the pulley arrangement.

Therefore, ANY photos or diagrams of the pulley set up, contact information RE: anyone in the Southern California area with experience in installing the D1R kit or any other assistance will be greatly appreciated in helping me to reinstall the supercharger.

I would also appreciate communicating with anyone who currently has the D1R supercharger installed on their 968.

Thanks Bob for the diagram.

I presume the upper 2 circles above the SC represent the Dayco 89095 pulleys.

Are there 2 or 3 flat 2" pulleys and where are they located on the diagram?

one is mounted on the plate.  the other is mounted as a part of the tensioner assembly. take care as to which spacer goes where.  it should be pretty obvious, but make sure the pulleys all line up with each other.

Thanks Bob for your response. In preparation for the Re-install of the D1R unit, I have obtained a new Gates belt, 2 new Dayco ribbed pulleys, and 2 new steel 2" flat pulleys from Jackson Racing.

Before commencing the Re-install, I really would appreciate further clarification of a few issues.

1. Confirmation that there are a total of two (2) Dayco ribbed 89095 pulleys and they are both positioned on either side of the mounting plate, above the supercharger. (see attached photo #1).

2. Confirmation that there are two 2" flat pulleys, one mounted with the lower alternator bolt, and the second mounted on the supercharger mounting plate below & just to the left of the supercharger (viewed from the front).

3. Should steel 2" pulleys be mounted in both locations, in particular should a steel pulley be used on the mounting plate and, if so, a longer metal spacer will be required than with my previous mounted plastic pulley. (see photo #2)

4. Need to determine height/length of new spacer which will require determining the clearance required between the mounting plate and the adjacent rotating flange of the flat pulley.

(see photo #2)

5. Sequence of the mounting hardware for the 2" pulley attached to the mounting plate, viewed from front to back (mounting bolt, flat washer, plate, spacer, pulley, flat washer, lock washer, nut?).


RE: photo #2: The diagrams represent a top view of the new steel 2" flat pulley, on the upper left, and the old 2" plastic pulley, on the right. Note the upper & lower flanges of the steel pulley appear of equal thickness, thinner than the stock lower flange but slightly thicker than the milled &/or worn upper flange of the old plastic pulley. Presumably, due to the thinner flanges of the new steel pulley, it would not require milling as do the Dayco ribbed pulleys (0.035").

RE: The longer spacer needed for the steel pulley: Total height/length "h" should be "x + additional height required for plate clearance"

Note: diagrams are for emphasis and are NOT to scale.

4.  i'll have to look up the spacer drawing.  not sure where that is right now.  i think it's either .300" or .330".  basically it needs to be enough to create clearance between the pulley and the plate, and center the belt on the pulley.

Dear Bob,

Thank you so very much for your very helpful & informative reply.

1. RE: the Dayco pulleys, I would like to confirm that the 0.035" should be milled from the side of the pulley with the 6 recessed "dots" on the outside of the flange.

2. RE: new spacer to compensate for the increased offset of the bearing to outer flange of the steel pulley ("x" in photo #2 of previous post) -

From an engineering perspective, it would seem to be preferable to use a new spacer, of the appropriate length/height, as opposed to using the existing shorter spacer (used with the old plastic pulley) in combination with multiple washers to make up the difference in height.

If this is the case, any suggestions as to the type of tubing or spacer that should be used and a possible source for same?
