Starting problem... never ending
#1

I couldn't find any posts about this and i somehow feel like an invalid, posting whore. for the past week when i would cold start my car it would crank 7-8 times andd then the rpm's would stumble up to it's 900-1000 range. tonight when i started up the car the rpm's shot up to about 1600 and stayed there. What would be causing the problem.. Dirty injectors? DME relay??... I feel like such a novice <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />. I might as well replace everything while i'm in there for the waterpump/belt job ( starting once the parts come in). I also spotted a valve cover leak ( easy fix). The car almost has 60k on it so i assume it's about time for stuff to break.

thanks guys.

Do you have any fault codes? It is most likely a sensor, dodgy electrical connection at such, a vacuum leak, or a gummed up idle stabilizer valve.

Here is a list of things to start looking for, depending on the symptom:

I think I would start with jiggling and cleaning all the sensor wire connections first and check for broken hoses, then work the list.
