SS Clutch hose
#1

Sorry to report bad newz on such a great item.

I got the hose in and rushed it over to the mechanic for install. He gave me a call to inform me that upon installation the hose split.

As he was tightening it up the metal part near the bend split open. He told me that he was puzzled as to why that metal was so soft. RS has shipped out another which I received today and dropped off a few minutes ago. this incident happen last Wed.

Has anyone else used this hose and experienced this or is this just a fluke, that of course happens to me?

See thread - http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=3649&st=20

I will get the old hose back and take pics.

the only thing that i can think of is that perhaps he tried to bend it to create more room - it is tight in there, and any additional bending would kink the hard portion of the line

the adaptor must be installed into the master first - then the hose - you cannot install the adaptor into the hose, and then the whole thing into the master

that is the one drawback of stainless lines - they are not terribly flexible, and any attempts to do that ends up breaking them - once installed, they are tough, but they must go in straight

i am very interested in seeing the hose

No problems with mine. Pretty straight forward install.

yeah - from what i am gathering from a second hand conversation, it looks like the hose was not installed correctly (or at least as this one needs to be)

there isn't much room in there, and the order of things is critical

no worries - replacement is on the way to him

the resolution of the problem has now been clarified by a pdf file of instructions that will accompany the part, clearly stating that the master needs to be installed in the car (not on a bench), and then the adaptor, and then the hose

Good idea. Just spoke with the mechanic and the new hose is in and the car is running fine. However my master and slave have yet to arrive

I'm going to take the car back till the other parts get in. I'll also pick up that hose and get some pics today .

i can't wait for you to drive it again in hershey to see the comparison - when you drove it, the suspension setup was a mess - i hadn't set the shock or struts, and in fact, the upper strut nuts were not torqued down (that's what the racket was up there - seems somebody had shut off my compressor and it didn't apply enough torque) - the tires were 5lbs low too - big difference - also i only had the M030 swaybars on there, which should both be changed out this week

Just drove the car and the new hose is working fine. He informed me that he did connect the adapter first, the split happen while connecting the master cylinder. “I didn’t even fully tighten” he said. Oh well, chalk it up as a fluke and a typical day in my life. If it can go wrong it will.

See pic.

yeah - that's lookinig like an overtightening issue there - almost looks like he was using a set of pliers on it, and not a fitting wrench - i've never had a flare do that from these guys unless somebody overtightened it, or did not have it seated properly before tightening (i.e. was at a goofy angle)

anyway, as you say, a day in the life - glad it's all fixed now

Typically flared connections deform before tearing as shown in the pic. That would take a lot of torque to do that, unless of course the material was soft. I hope the components are a quality grade steel.

I've also seen this happen when the wrong flaring angle was used. If I recall automotive is 37° and aircraft fittings are 45°. If the male & female don't match, bad things happen, [hmm sounds eerily familiar]

Just my .04...

No clutch hose for me yet, looks like I'll have to push back the shop date again. I should have gotten Pete to send it via priority mail

Here's hoping all goes well with the installation of mine. Of course I could always get a rubber hose put in if things do go wrong.

Im on the East coast so I got both hoses in about 3 days using USPS. I like the item and when you consider cost and time the SS hose is a no brainer.

As for the install, flash mentioned the instructions will be on their page or perhaps there already there, if so I cant find them. I cant speak for how tight he screwd that hose on as I wasnt there. If your doing the job yourself look at this post as a heads up as to what not to do.

Today, RSBarn replaced my master and slave cylinders, along with the blue hose and the new SS line. Other miscellaneous work was also done, and all is good so far.

My hose just came in the mail

Still over a week before it'll get installed however. It looks like a quality item, too bad everything else won't be as new and shiny

Finally the wait is over. What a welcomed sight to see that performance products box in my foyer when I walked through the door.

Will drop it off this morning to be installed.

One small concern though….

Had my SS clutch line and new cylinders from RS Barn installed today, along with SS brake lines from Paragon. Everything works like a charm. First drive since the hose split in October. Life is good.

Only fly in the ointment is it appears I've almost completely worn out my front Metalmaster pads in only two DE events.
