Speed Yellow 968 coupe production revised!
#1

Earlier this year I published the results of the speed yellow 968 coupes since I had finished the 1994 and 1995 model years of the North American 968 coupe registry. Well guess what. I found two more SY 968 coupes produced in 1993 for Canada so I have to revise my findings. They appear below. BTW, I now have ALL the data for the 968 coupes so there won’t be any more SY coupes showing up.

The coupe registry is essentially complete so that I can share the data with you on the Speed Yellow 968 coupes. It turns out Porsche made the same number of SY coupes as they did cabs which is 10 in number. Below are the details which I'm sure you will find interesting:

There were:
10 Speed Yellow coupes built for the North American market
2 1993s (both sent to Canada)
3 1994s (94.5s actually, true 94s, non-718 cars)
5 1995s (4 718 cars, 1 true 95)
10 were 6 speeds
7 had code LT black partial leather interior
1 had code PJ marble gray/black partial leather interior
2 had code AB black partial cloth “Porsche” script interior
8 had 595 painted rear spoiler (all of them)
5 were M030 sport chassis cars

Unlike the SY cabs, most of the coupes were well optioned:
SYCP #1 – 93 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), limited slip, Canadian package (dual heated seats, headlight washers), black partial cloth “Porsche” script interior
SYCP #2 – 93 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), limited slip, Canadian package (dual heated seats, headlight washers), black partial cloth “Porsche” script interior
SYCP #3 – 94 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), painted rear spoiler, NO limited slip, black partial leather
SYCP #4 – 94 – limited slip, 17” wheels, painted rear spoiler, black partial leather
SYCP #5 – 94 – painted rear spoiler, black partial leather
SYCP #6 – 95 - limited slip, 17” wheels, painted rear spoiler, black partial leather
SYCP #7 – 95 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), limited slip, dual heated seats, dual 8-way full power seats, painted crest center caps, hi-fi sound speakers, painted rear spoiler, black partial leather
SYCP #8 – 95 – limited slip, dual heated seats, dual 8-way full power seats, painted crest center caps, hi-fi sound speakers, painted rear spoiler, black partial leather
SYCP #9 – 95 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), limited slip, sport seats, painted rear spoiler, alternate color leather shifter knob, black partial leather
SYCP #10 – 95 – limited slip, painted crest center caps, sport seats, hi-fi sound speakers, painted rear spoiler, CD changer, marble gray/black partial leather

SYC9 was Porsche's at one point. I'd love to own any of these but especially an M030. If anyone EVER sees one for sale, please let me know.

How often do you get to say that if you do spot one, there is a 50% chance that it is an M030 car???!!!

I would definetly not insist on M030.

It's quite easy to upgrade to M030 break components. And a modern suspension is much better than the original M030 stuff (which is, of course, not bad).

i agree with SHA 100%.

M030 is nice if you plan on keeping the car stock and doing auto-x with it. But if you are going to modify the car, M030 is a big waste of money. I've driven a braced M030 car and prefer my suspension set-up to the m030 anyday.

You want a tiptronic, that will open up many options and more reasonable prices to you. Send me a PM and i'll get you on my "looking for" list. Coupe only or cab as well?

Read the thread closer. True, no tips but 10 SY cabs AND 10 SY coupes for you to find out there!!! You could always convert the 6spd to a tip

I'm curious to know if there are other special wishes Yellow cars out there. We know there is at least one other...although it is Summer Yellow and not Speed Yellow.....And that is a 6-Speed as well.

Jeff, Do you have a total # for paint to sample Cabs and Coupes yet, and how many of those do we know the color for?

Dino,
I do have the numbers but I have to see if I can find out the CTS paint codes. The numbers are:

Cabs:
Code 98 solid color to sample: 1 (this car is at the Porsche museum in Germany and appears to be Riviera Blue)
Code 99 metallic color to sample: 7
Coupes:
Code 98 solid color to sample: 1 (the summer yellow car)
Code 99 metallic color to sample: 9

Since both solid CTS cars are known then no more yellow cars.
