mostly true ( imo )

however, speeding ( or even driving below the limit ) through red lights does kill. i'm all for red light cameras and material penalties for those violations .

and speeding on city streets probably kills also.. kids, etc can suddenly cross your path

otherwise, the myth that speeding by itself is an issue / dangerous, when and where there is actually little evidence of that, seems to be embraced only by law enforcement, insurance cos, etc as a way to make money

Yep, strict(er) speed limits where it makes sense (in front of schools, busy intersections, etc). Instead of luring motorists into traps to get in their pockets.

Interesting too see that a scientific report like that doesn't get known by the greater public whilst most people seem to be ok to swallow the BS that the politicians and media force feed us.

I believe a majority of people are ok with raising the limits, they just don't scream loud enough.

Politicians are all wimps . But since only " the squeaky wheel gets the oil " until people take the initiative to push for a change in the status quo, only special interest groups will be heard and reported in the media.

I had a bumper sticker on my 440 'cuda ( a car which I stupidly sold in 1979 for less than $ 1,000 ) that read : " DDAMM " , with small letters below it reading : drunk drivers against mad mothers . :-) :-). And I actually support MADD but just thought the sticker was funny enough to put on the bumper. Hey, it was the 70s, in Cleveland, so bumper stickers on cars were not considered an eyesore...though they were, lol. Maybe get a sticker that reads " speed does not kill , inattentive driving does " and start a campaign for higher speed limits on highways ?

Interesting that the speed limit has been RAISED recently on many highways in BC. The "Sea-to-Sky" highway he mentions has a higher limit now. But... the FIRST accident that happened after the limit was raised, the media had a headline story about how the raising of the speed limit MIGHT have been a factor in that accident happening! As if NO accidents had happened when the limit was LOWER. Worse... the number of accidents has actually gone down in the last few months! The video is very well done, and I hope it helped (even if only in a small way) to raise the limits.

Hopefully the media spent even amounts of broadcast time to the fact that raising the limits led to less accidents.

Ain't gonna happen.

Did not know in which thread this would best fit, so I picked one of the most recent " close enough " ones .. This is a photo of the car in which Oscar Taveras ( St. Louis cardinals ) and his girlfriend were killed . Tragic, but the toxicology report which was just released indicated his blood-alcohol limit was 5 X the max legal limit. How the heck are you able to even walk to your car with five times the legal threshold of alcohol in your blood ? !

What model car is that anyway ? Yeah, speed was definitely a factor here, but not as much as the drunk out of your friggin brain factor. Tragic, but soooo stupid !

Atlanta is actually raising the limit from 55 to 65 with dynamic signs. The electronic speed limit signs change based upon actual traffic and road conditions. However, it's frustrating when the left (fast lane) of a 6 lane expressway displays 65 and the right lane shows 15. Already bad enough with all the implants and people who are on the road and shouldn't be. Lookie thar sugar pie, that's a big earl spot under that thar truck. Why my goodness Charlie...slow down. Ah think ah nose that family from Arkinsaw. Lol

15 mph? What's that lane for? Joggers? Bicycles?
