Seat Upgrades
#1

Anybody seen these in person?

Ebay: Painted Boxster Sport Seat Backs

Bolt-on, painted seat backs with little "sport" bolsters. Seems like you could buy some nice (maybe real sport) used seats for that price, but the detail work looks pretty good. Kinda bling, but kinda cool too.

I thought they were interesting, but they wouldn't fix my worn out bolster though. What's the verdict on seat upgrades here?

I did a nice set of covers from leatherseats.com on a non-porsche once. They're really good quality, but they're pricey too, and just a little bit less than a factory look. Sort of like a really nice upholstry job that you can tell was an upholstry job.

Can you get things re-upholstered to factory condition? Everything I see usually has that re-done look.

Is it best to get a used set from a recycler?

I'm not really into sheepskins or sparco stuff, just trying to look like an '06 968.

Is Recaro one of your "sponsors"? In your first post I thought you were just bragging but perhaps you are plugging for them?

idon't see how that is relevant - it's always a pleasure though, as a sponsor of the site, to get the third degree, and have motivations questioned when a member asks for input

he said he was looking for options to create an 06 968 - i have stated factual information, and my own personal opinion of my own experience, just as anyone else would do, which is completely appropriate, and that is all that matters - it's not like i compared them to anything else, or even tried to push him in any direction

i directed him to consult the distributor for pricing because it is not recaro's policy to sell directly

Rich, do you have an early 968 or late (early 94 vs late 94)? Late 968s have a newer seat design

Eric Sandoval put these 993 sport seats in his ex 968

I understand that 996 seats are not a good fit and I assume the same is true for Boxster seats.

even the photos do not do justice to flash's seats - saw them live, sat in them and

they are phenomenal ! it's like one of those Sharper Image massage chairs you just do not want to leave ( speaking of which.. I'm sure he might have had the vibration mechanism offered as an option, but we all know how he feels about the few extra ounces the motor and massaging knuckles framework would have added to the weight )

so if you have some dough burning a hole in your pocket... IMO, those are the way to go

I have early seats. When I bought the car the seats were pretty worn and the previous owner had sheep skin covers. They were comfortable, but i hated the look. After looking at some 993 (newer style 968 ) seats I realized they looked very simillar except for the actual skins. I asked a local reputable interior shop about it and they said the will fit perfectly. They do. Much cheaper than new seats, retain factory look, and they have a more modern look than the 944 style seats.

Kramermic,

Did you order new leather for your seats and replace the old style with new style covers?

My seat bolsters are torn and I would like to replace them but....

I'm no fan of the very heavy and complex power seat mechanism. For this car I would prefer manual adjustments. I also find that these seats pinch me at the thighs. I only notice it on longer rides and no I'm not.... er, plus sized in the seat but I am 6'3"- 210.

What I've been thinking of is new Corbeau sport seats. Manual, light, wider, and fairly cheap compared to leather alternatives. I'm no fan of leather seats in general. As long as I keep the stock seats I don't think it will penalize me at resale (which I may never do anyway).

Has anyone seen these sets? My biggest question would be how good the color match option is. I would rather do the Cashmere match than get black seats.

not sure which model you are looking at, but watch the width - our stock seats are very narrow, and only a couple of aftermarket seats fit well in that space - one of the corbeaus does fit - i almost went that route

dj (one of our local guys) just put in the corbeau - i sat in them in the car - nice seats - very firm - good grab - they sit a bit higher than stock if you use their sliders and such

i was not aware of the "color match" option - when i talked to them, i was going to have to have buy them in black, and then tear them apart and have them done out here - the porsche perforated and non-perforated cashmere leather is available, and fairly inexpensive at the veteran company - it is a perfect match
