Rhudes Koni / spring set up Round 3
#1
for that kind of setup, i would run koni yellows with a 200lb spring up front, and koni yellow shocks on 1/2 turn from full soft in the rear - add in M030 sway bars of course, the lower and upper braces will make it all work much better
So as it turns out, Flash was right. Whoda thunk it?

I installed the 275lb springs and I don't like it. The car ins't as composed as it was before the upgrade. Little imperfections in the road are jarring and it feels like its skating a bit when cornering hard, as if my tires were made of concrete. I thought about changing tires but the car didn't feel this way before the konis and springs. So I'm guessing its the hard springs that brought about this drastic change.

So here goes round 3. I'm gonna give 200lb springs a try. As you may recall i was also looking to drop the car about an 1.5"

Since we are now talking 200lb vs 275lb. Should I still look to buy 10" springs or will that drop too much?

Funny, Flash right about something?

I ordered 250's for my upgrade and he talked me down to 225. I have yet to get her on the road as I'm waiting for a few more parts but now that you have spoken I am REALLY glad I listened.

LOL- Well, ride feel is subjective. So its a tricky thing to trust someone else's input. I've driven cars that some have deemed too harsh and thought they were just fine. Not to mention, a few members here had told me to go with 300lb springs. Some have higher. But after installing my 275s and riding around for a few months. i'm just not happy with them. its not awful, it's just not suited for me. I drive pretty hard at times and the Old suspension never scared me. The new setup just doesn't feel like its digging into the corners like it should.

I thought about ordering 225 this time around as well (as I want a stiff ride). But i got the feeling Flash and I "ARE" on the same page in what I'm looking for. So I figure I'll listen... this time.

Flash I'm seriously thinking about throwing on some slightly stiffer front springs before I get my car aligned. Currently I'm on stock 951 M030 springs, and while the ride doesn't necessarily feel soft, I get more brake dive and, even with M030 sways, still more body roll than I'd like. Who makes the best progressive spring in the 200# range that would work well with stock torsion bars?

With the amount of time invested and the plethora of product combos you've tried. I figured you learned a thing or two along the way.

Thanks for the spring length. Guess there’s no need to ask are you sure.. . <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Funny - I have 350# up front with Koni Sports and I think they are a little soft...

Changing to KW Clubsports next year with 540# front.

But, having said that, I think the Koni Sports aren't that great a shock. I have run with stock, 250 and 350 and they seem to be too easily "upset" by undulations and bumps.

For comparison, The Turbo RS had 300# or 450# up front (that was the choice from the factory) - obviously with more aggressive damper settings.

like i said. It's subjective.

Stock is 160 and i really enjoyed the the way the car handled. It was a bit too soft and a bit too tall but it performed great, despite being 17 year old components. I'm hoping the 200s will stiffen things up just a touch while lowering the car approx 1.5"
