I wish I could help. I bought my daughter a car here in Florida and after her first year in NC with the car they said the tint was too dark but she had a local shop do the removal and it cost her I think about $150 bucks or so. She was not married at the time and had little choice and dad was over 1000 miles away so I couldn't get there.

Good luck, How about calling a local shop that installs it? I mean I am sure they do replacement jobs all the time so they must know a trick or two. When I put it on my home windows for hurricane protection, they soap up the windows pretty good then as it dries it sticks to the window...so I guess the reverse must be true. Trying to take it off without the soap will result in herniation.

I don't mind paying a shop to do it and I heard it's fairly inexpensive - 100 to 150 for all the windows, but if it's really easy as a DYI, I thought I might give it a try..

I agree there - cash is cash and if you can hang onto it - well that's a good thing. Start with a small side window if it works, run with it, if not - outsource it.

+1 for steamer. take a razor blade and "hook under" one corner and go from there.

I just did took tint off my newly acquired VW Fox. I used a razor and windex but I wish I had tried a steamer. That would have worked better.

The steamer seems to be the most popular method, but I used a heat gun recently on one of our cars, and it worked reasonably well. Need to wear gloves though to prevent your fingers from getting burned!

Well folks, today I was pulled over by a CHP officer ( who evidently had nothing better to do with this time than to give me a " fix-it " ticket ). I was just driving into a post office parking lot as he was driving out, when suddenly he just turned back in, lights flashing and ..long story short : have to get that tint off my windows. Not a big deal , but that just seemed petty . However, while I do understand the reasons behind having clear side windows, I still don't know why in some states this is not a problem, and in others it is ( one would think officer safety is a universal concern )
