Rear window exterior trim
#1

Does anyone have a procedure to remove the black exterior trim around the rear window and the spoiler? My spoiler is a bit loose and the trim pieces are also loose where they go into the spoiler. Plus a couple of the screws that are visible underneath are just turning in the trim and spoiler - use bigger screws?

common problem. it comes from people using the spoiler to open and close the hatch, which you are not supposed to do.

the cast material strips out. the repair involves adding new material and tapping it. removal will be complicated as the screws indeed just spin with the standoffs still attached.

I'm going to take and post some photos - the spoiler does not seem to sit tight into the trim around the window.

I've got the same problem - spoiler attachment screw are loose and just spin. Another fun 'they all do that' fix!

There are 2 slightly hidden nuts/screws, one on each side of the spoiler at the very end of the window trim piece. I had a loose spoiler when I purchased my car and found the PO had not put these in for whatever reason. Removing the rest of the window trim requires a flat screw driver blade with the center notched out. I made one and have used it a lot The black cement on the trim studs mounting plates will let go over time and then the fiberglass trim pieces flap.

I made a notched screwdriver too and it worked great, snugged up all the trim pieces. But the wing remains a bit loose and rattly over bumps.

I'll look for that hidden screw - thanks Dave.
