I will send you a close up of it tomorrow. It is a pic from a mag that I selected for my in house arteeeest to do. Two people have already asked to buy it. It probably will go at the top of the steps so it's the first thing you see when you reach the second floor. We have another one we put up today that is of a pic I took during a trip to Italy. We keep the pic of the pic in the lower right hand corner. Looks the same. I admit to a bias but Liz has a talent and has little knowledge of it. Course I am her biggest fan. The second floor was added to give her the space needed to hopefully spur her on!

Looks fantastic. Is she using some new cellular painting technique?

"Cellular painting" is when you paint something while talking on your cellphone the whole time. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/icon_lol1.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

In my continuing garage saga, today the chickens truly came home to roost. My contractor walked into my office sat down and handed me a sheaf of papers. Reminded me of law school for some reason, which was my first inkling that I wasn't going to like the conversation. I asked him what was it that he was handing me. He replied, " this is a complete audit of your garage expenses". Audit? Hmmm. Two weeks ago he have me a final figure. This was three times that. After the EMR team jump started my heart and picked me up off the floor he told me he thought I knew he was kidding two weeks ago. Meanwhile my partner is laughing because as he subsequently told me, " I saw your eyes lite up as you realized the next car had just disappeared"! My contractor did tell me on a positive note that the sub who messed up the floor gave all the money back after he was convinced that it was in his best interests. The floor still needs to be done but it's factored into this tranche. So I went out and used my garage tonite happy in the fact that I am broke with a really nice new garage. Oh woo is me! Lol

As we've said with our Porsche's - NEVER add up the receipts.

We earn money to buy things we can enjoy. Purchases like that however, adds value to your home now and in the future. Making it a wise investment. So the way I see it, the glass is 3/4 full.
  • You now have a beautiful living space providing an escape for when you need some quiet time.

  • You've given the main house extra space, By creating the room for your wife upstairs and moving all her supplies there.

  • Your tools are more accessible and your more inclined to do your own repairs. Which may lead to friends and family wanting to use your lift.. win some lose some.

  • if you decide to sell the home. That space will attract both male and female buyers willing to pay extra for a space so versatile and roomy.

Rap,

Sorry to hear that you got a bum estimate but the results are phenomenal! I was thinking about coming up for the PCA Tech Session and then checking out your garage but, as you may know, I am not a wrench and sitting through super technical sessions would be tough for me. How about a fun run (not like Newtown where we are both flying and my coupe is kissing your bumper for 50 miles - lol) from Hershey to your place after the April 21 Hershey Swap Meet this year? I am betting many of the 968 attendees would want to check out your new garage. Survey?

I think perhaps my dry sardonic wit that I used to mock myself was misunderstood. My dry sardonic wit seems to be misunderstood most of the time. It's funny, I just don't get it. I don't have any trouble understanding it. My contractor was point on. The quote sounded funny and he is a friend so I misunderstood, my mistake not his. Missed the rolling eyes. I am absolutely pleased. The whole thing is way cool, except for the floor and that will be fixed in the spring. Don I'm not a wrench either but thought I would check it out. How far are you from Easton? If you guys want to come up I'm game! Rhude your right Porsche owners don't add up receipts. This clearly is why I was taken aback. Course as different as it may sound, I never budgeted this. In fact my contractor decided many of the points without discussion. I just gave him parameters. I've been working like this with him for 15 years. He built and put in that which he forgot or didn't put in his garage. Vicarious come to mind?

Rap, I would guess about 1 hr 15 minutes - we come over for shopping at the Allentown Whitehall Mall. As mentioned to you in Newtown, I worked in Bethlehem for AT&T handling the Bethlehem Steel Account 1970-1974, so I am familiar with the area. Still on the fence, the agenda looks pretty deep.

I suspect I will find that out but I figured it's only a day so what the heck! Looking forward to Hershey. Hope the weather is a tad nicer than last year! I believe Hershey to Bear Creek is in the neighborhood of 100 miles!

Looks great. I've not had great luck with contractors either. You really have to watch them and get them to review costs constantly. They hate it, but its the only way to avoid misunderstandings at the end.

Well after much procrastination, research, chat with Flash and numerous others I jumped in feet first and purchased a Bendpak 4 post lift- HD9ST. For what ever reason this was the most difficult choice of all that has been made regarding this garage! Thank god I have a commercial business with a forklift. Otherwise this would have been a huge pain in the butt. Probably would have added 25 percent to the overall cost.

I got up the other nite and Liz said where are you going? I told her I was going over to the garage. So she says , you going over to the garage to hang out? Now fellas, couple of things here. I'm not the smartest guy going. In fact, there are not many who can best me with saying the wrong thing at the wrong time or just flat out sticking my foot in my mouth, but in a moment of extreme clarity were time seemed to slow down and my thought process kicked into high gear and accurately analyzed several different responses with graded outcomes, I said no, I'm going over to detail my car. The words hung in the air for what seemed like an eternity before she said oh ok. Now, at least for the moment the proper groundwork has been laid for nightly forays unimpeded by hurt emotions!

Well the floor experts visited and the results are in. The entire floor, epoxy coating, needs to come up before a newly selected coating is put down. As I listened to an articulate representative who was there as a favor to the paint distributor we use I realize the depth of my mistake. The guy that put the floor down seems to have bungled it even worse than I imagined! It would appear to be degrading now in some areas. Although I am getting my money back, I find myself thinking un Christian like thoughts imagining pounds of flesh and the like. I need to stay focused on the solution. The suggestion is to wait until warmer weather so there are no adhesive issues. The application needs to be done correctly and thoroughly which it seems it wasn't. Course up in da mountains that could be June. It won't be of course because between the current system with 100,000 BTU's and alternative heat sources that can be added we can make the floor more than warm enough. Lift has shipped and is on the way so positive thoughts rule the day. I listen to you guys driving your cars and ruefully look at the icey, muddy and slushy road in front of my garage and dream of dryer days! Lol

I will check it out, thanks for the lead. Lift arrived today but low and behold, I have to wait for the new floor before it gets installed. On a positive note, mud road equals dirty garage so I've added a power cleaner to my ever increasing tool complement. Now I've got a new hobby! Floor cleaner. Reminds me of my dark period when floor cleaning was part of my deal.
