Raps Garage Build 2011-12
#41

I wouldn't want blacked out windows either. But I do like the look. Anything less then 35% is illegal in MD anyway.

i also like the benefits of a cooler car in the summer and layer of UV protection for your intr.

So today the stereo went in. Come on Quennie let's get with it. Sounds good subwoofer not hooked up yet and haven't figured out zones yet. Tv's go in tomorrow, hopefully. Hopefully is my current word these days. Liz asked me if I was going to spend all my time there now. Bright woman!

Rhude, the bulk of my tunes will come from an iPod dock! FM and XM coverage stinks and who listens to the radio except for public broadcasting anyway. Liz inquired when the frig was being installed as she was getting tired of hauling bottles and glasses over. I told her she'd survive!!! Lol

Tv, hose, vacuum and compressor went up today. God willin and da crick don't rise, cabinets go up tomorrow. Now I actually have to get off my duff and order the lift. Unbelievably enough my contractor, who is also a friend and an employee, said to me today, " Bob you know this isn't a man cave". Now it was never my intention to build a man cave. He begged me to be allowed to throw some cowhides over the couches when Liz wasn't around. He also suggested a standing suit of armor in the corner with perhaps a few grenades on the coffee table. Seems the thick scent of cigars is not quite enough!

That is one "wise" dude! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/clap.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Cover up the couch fabric and we will all be proud of you! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rock.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Do NOT share this topic with your wife, since it will only confirm in her mind that "Boys just don't grow up!" <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

As much as I would like to deny it, not only does she understand that concept regarding boys, it's one of the things that keeps one young. That and the continual sticking ones foot down ones mouth. Not many folks better than me on this one. Langley, what happened to your inner feminine self? Lol no disrespect intended.

Observations on building a garage

1. This will cost more than you think. Depending on what you envision, think about adding 25-50 percent extra. I am at plus 50.

2. List every possible thing you could have in your garage and then solicit advice and look at other garages. Forum members have been helpful here for me because I just got into cars and am out of my baillywick.

3. Plan on this taking longer than you anticipate. I am in a different situation than most because we have been running two other massive construction projects that has put me third man on the list. See www.clearbrookinc.com Rank doesn't always have privilege and business always comes first!

4. I now find that my size is not as large as it needs to be. What are you nuts? Lol the contractor and I were going over cabinet placement and it became apparent that it was time to really measure for the lift. Thank god I procrastinated. I easily could have purchased the wrong size lift. My dream of placing three cars in one bay using the lift have been shattered. Oh woo is me! Garage isn't deep enough to do this. Now I have to find a specific width which is dictated by the nifty in floor drains which were going to allow me to wash my cars in the winter. Now that I really think about it, why iin gods name would I want to be washing my car in the winter.

5. The floor debacle has already been discussed here. Bottom line is it needs to be redone. Lesson learned. You can't research products, applications and installers enough. I made a mistake on the selection of the installer. This happened because I went outside of the expertise of my GC and painter. While they had done floors before, they had not used sand as the color. My mistake.

While not entirely done overall I am like a little kid in a candy shop and blown away by what I have wrought. Today I start to transfer stuff

from one garage to another! Anyone that builds a garage might keep these items in consideration.

Cheers, Bob

Cabinets are in- I like the diamond plate

There's finally a place to park your arse while you tilt your beer.

I just sent you some more Rhude. Small tv 46 down and up. I saw the table and chairs when I was at Flash's and thought they were sorta neat and functional. Next is the work bench under the cabinets. . Mulling tops. Thinking maybe stainless steel. Any opinions on this choice gents? Left corner gets two tallboys for more cabinet space on either side of compressor after it gets moved to the right. Frig under the Porsche sign plus one upstairs. Still trying to figure out lift. As previous thread stated it wont work pushed into the back left corner so it gets pulled back which actually creates a useful space. I am thinking of a grand opening type party forum embers invited of course! Opinions always welcome!

One of the most important features was installed yesterday. A wine frig! Ahhh. Liz filled it up immediately. Man I didn't know she could move that fast!

Jay is there something wrong with your car? Two hours? Lol. This can be very easily accomplished. You and Melva or just yourself are most welcome to come and visit. We merely need to pick a convenient date!

Yes when I get the chance it is fun to hang in. I was going to detail the car the other day but taking it out for a drive seemed more enjoyable! Not much of a tv kinda guy ( so tell me again why you put two tv's in?) but watching some sports with the music while smokin a cigar was cool. Point and click to change the music just adds to the fun. I probably should check to see if it's noisy outside but well dirt rode and few neighbors screw it. More use will equal more fun!
