Radar Detectors or Do they even work??
#21

Electronic counter measures devices are no substitute for situational awareness. Never forget to check your six from time to time.

It means to look behind you or over your shoulder. A lot of pilots get shot down because they neglect to look aft ward to see what is following them. Pilots use a clock face to describe where something is in the sky. Twelve-o-clock being on the nose and 6-o-clock being to the rear. The terms high and low are used further describe the position as being higher or lower in elevation. Thus twelve-o-clock high means on your nose higher in elevation, nine-o-clock low means off your left wing and at a lower altitude.

F-4s had poor rearward vision. I used to clear my 6 by periodically executing an aileron role or a barrel roll just to make sure nothing was coming from behind or below.

It depends, do you want one for Migs or cops? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rock.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Seriously, I have used the Valentine 1 since it first came out and the Escort products before Mike Valentine sold the company. Go online and do a search for Valentine 1.

i'm not a fan of the valentine. while it had a slight advantage in range, and it "sees" to the rear, in independent tests it showed that it falsed a lot more than the bel. for me, that would lead to me ignoring it too often, which then makes it useless. a lot of people like it though.

I have the corded Bell in my MBZ and the Solo in the 968. While both seem to have good rear view range, the corded model picks up the signal at considerably longer distances in my experience.

Flash,

Agree with the V1's propensity for apparent false signals however the L mode does reduce it somewhat. On the other hand it has saved my arse more times than I can count. Brand loyalty I suppose.

I've been using the Escort 9500ix for 5 years and love it. I just ordered the Redline. I'll do a side by side comparison, the Redline is rated one of the best in range.

My Escort 9500ix is an amazing device. I also have an Escort Solo S2. The ix is more accurate as it's on all of the time and the cordless unit cycles on and off, very very fast for battery power saving. (It's a feature not a bug so they say.) Both have saved me many tickets.

I did use one when they first came out, an Escort, which according to the front page of Car and Driver "It was the next best thing to owning a Judge". I also was a reseller of them when it took 6 months to get one, as I sold over 300 of them. Then I had owned other models along the way, but have not had one in a long time so I asked the question! I think some on this forum should get off the high horse, and be polite.
