ORTEGA HWY FUN RUN AND BBQ - SAT AUG 18
#1

ok kids - time to come out and play

i've been wanting to do a run on ortega highway since i moved here, and it's time before the summer is over - this is supposed to be one fantastic road - i'm going to go and check it out in the next couple of days and lay out the course and such

i am targeting saturday august 18 - this should give everyone plenty of time to get their cars together for the run (no lame excuses) - functioning air conditioning is recommended, as it can be hot that time of year

we would rendezvous here in the morning (about 9 ish), take off for the run, and then end up back here for a bbq

bring nothing but enthusiasm (ok - some beer is always welcome)

email me if you want to attend (i need to make the shopping list)

If it weren't for the fact that August 18 is the first day of my family vacation on Martha's Vineyard, I'd seriously consider taking you up on your offer, Flash. Maybe next time.

Hey, you two : GET A ROOM !!

Dangit, I was just there so doubtful I can get away again, or for that matter feel like driving another 1,000 mi. less than a month apart, but it sure sounds like a lot of fun which should not be passed up easily..

laugh you will, but I will probably need that room to move in, after Alena kicks me out of the house for spending all my time having fun in L.A.

Funny what happens when you go to correct a few minor things...

One of the things I needed to do was fix or replace a brake caliper that wasn't 100%. In addition to that, I'm now putting on Zimmermans, Porterfield pads and steel lines.

Any other suggestions?

Ortega Hwy on the weekends is not very much fun unless you plan on getting started very early in the morning. The traffic (bikes, motorhomes, weekend travelers) on that road makes it easy to get stuck behind a slowpoke with no chance of passing.

If you decide to try an alternative route, the roads above Malibu are pretty clear before 9am.

lol - that's what we used to do when i lived up there - now i live down here

as for the traffic, that is a problem pretty much anywhere - our last run on tuna canyon got us stuck behind an suv

there are ways of dealing with it

not sure i want to do this, but thought i would ask

a few people have said they couldn't make it on the 18th, but could on the 25th - not sure how many i would lose from the 18th though

is it worth moving this event to the 25th?

Just kind of curious Flash, but what part of L.A. do you live in? I'm in Northern San Diego. It usually takes me about 1.5 hours to make it to LAX.

Haha... I will actually be up there tomorrow doing some work in San Juan. I used to live in Laguna Niguel actually before I moved down here. Funny what a small world it is. I may be able to do the 25th now that I won't have to drive up to L.A. So I guess sign me up
