Oil leaking from oil filter
#1

The oil filter housing has been changed, but it is still leaking around where the oil filter meets the oil filter housing. What could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try replacing the filter with a new one. Check the mounting surface where the filter seals against the housing. wipe some oil on the filter gasket before you put it one. Follow instructions for how to tighten properly.

If this fails, check to be sure that it is really leaking from where you think it is. Some shops will add a fluorescent dye to the oil and run the engine on the rack to see where the oil is coming from with a black light.

Does someone know the correct size for a "cap style oil filter wrench"? The one you use with a ratchet driver? I have tried buying twice and was unsuccessful...

I believe it's a #3 Philips. Jam it in sideways and twist! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Make sure the old gasket has been removed, on the new gasket and mouting surface are free of debris.

Mine says 76/14.

Since I have a Canton filter, I don't need it anymore. Pay the USPS medium flat rate cost and it's yours.

We'll just all go to Langley now if we have a jammed oil filter. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I was on a Kubota site and a guy there is using Dielectric grease on his filter gasket. He swears that he can remove the filter by hand and it never leaks either.

What do you think?

That's SOP on aircraft spin on filters. Can't hurt.
