oil filter recommendations
#1

It's time to pick up a few oil filters. I want to stay with the stock spin-on setup. Can I get some recommendations on aftermarket brands/prices versus OEM please?

I and a few others really like the K&N oil filters. They have on of the best filtrations, have a hex welded to the top so you can use a ratchet to install/remove, but do cost a bit more than the others. The price ranges from I believe $13-20 per filter.

The premium filters do have a better filter efficiency than the average run of the mill brand. Buy the best you can find.

Can you be more specific re premium brands? How does the OEM filter compare? Does anyone know who manufactures the OEM filter?

from what i have been able to gather so far, it is my understanding that the mahle is also a mobil 1 -

the k&n filters down to 16 microns, and has been said to be the best direct replacement for the mahle - the mahle is no slouch and is a close second - the others fall behind

if you haven't considered it yet, the canton racing filter (CM filters) is a very nice mod - spins on just like stock, but the lid comes off and a cartridge comes out - no more mess - filters down to 8 microns and flows 15 gal/min unrestricted - there is a whole thread here devoted to it

Here are some links referring to the Canton Racing Filter –

I use either the OEM Porsche Oil Filter (944-107-201-08) or I get Mahle Oil Filters. I have been thinking about switching to the CM Filter (CM Filter No. 25-282) but cannot decide. I have listed a couple places below where you can get the Oil filters. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

i put the canton filter in mine early this summer.

it has worked great and will make oil changes mess-free from now on.

so far, i have had a positive experience with it.

just make sure to not over-tighten it. it's a tad sensitive.
