this was way, way, waaaay too much fun !

we're doing this again next weekend, right ?

loved hwy 25, loved the crooked kilt pub and those yummy blarney burgers..and the waitress.. ( I swear she's holding two jobs and the second job involves a brass pole .. must have been the outfit ) , the Tobin James wine tasting and the private tour of the barrel room just rocked, as did the wine tasting, and of course the wine tasting was outstanding. Above all, doing this in such great company made it that much more enjoyable. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the wine tasting

too bad about the "unscheduled stop" , but I guess it would have been too perfect of a day without it, and we can't have that, can we ?!

and R.I.P. for the little critter which must have been dumped by his g/f earlier today, deciding to end it all by taking a swan dive right in front of Ron's car. So sad to see his tiny broken body lay there by the side of the road, his paw still clutching a mini-bottle of Jose Cuervo.. ( ergo, my theory that it was suicide..)

last, on the way back ( on 101 ) we passed by the Vanquish which we saw parked at the Inn - driver was a gentleman in his seventies I'm guessing, cruising steadily at 60 mph, and in a 70 mph zone all all things. I'm sorry, but anyone driving a Vanquish at 60 mph ( unless you're still in your driveway, or cul-de-sac.. or a school zone.. ) should have the car confiscated from them, and given to someone ( ME !! ) who can appreciate it for the masterpiece ICBM that it is

DITTO DITTO DITTO...Oh yeah the crooked kilt, wondering minds wanna know if there was anything under those kilts.. damn forgot to ask our host... Thanks Bob for setting everything up, the winery and the wines were fantastic. Lastly, the drive on Higway 25 was great.. Its been a while since Ive seen my car pass the double the speed limit numbers(numerous times by the way) and the tach above 4500 all day long... We gotta do it again

Man.... I had one heck of a time keeping up with all you criminals going ~140mph in 55mph zone! I just did a quick calculation and it turns out that 130mph=6100rpm in my car, thanks to short 5th gear... And all my pictures came out blurry 'cause we were going so damn fast.....

Good drive, good weather, good wine and good company! Thanks to Bob for organizing the special wine tasting and excellent choice of bar -- I can't remember how the food was, but very nice service

We were talking about the point where our cars max out in 5th - on the first run I thought it was at 140, but I was not paying close attention to the tach.. on the way back I looked at it and 140 in 5th was at 6400 - given that the car pulls fairly strong between 6600 and 7000 ( no point taking it past 7200 ) I'm guessing

150 in fifth gear is realistic. When I did 160 ( months ago ) in 6th I also did not look at the tach, but it sounded as if I was right at the redline... Now, that was with only the BB, no chip, no air box mod.

I realize some say these cars do not have the potential of 170 mph+ because of aerodynamics and Hp, but I'm tellin' ya - if I had the cojones on the way back to continue past the 140 mark, given where I was on the tach and knowing how strong the car pulls in 6th, I can't envision what factor might have stopped this car from going AT LEAST 165 ( other than the highway patrol ..or my brain thinking about the highway patrol ).

Like Tobias ( Pitou ) posted on 968 net: 160 mph reached, with plenty of power left to go beyond that speed.

I'm sure all speedometers have some error reading, so no clue if we're going 158 when it reads 160, or if we're going 162.. the point is the car feels glued to the ground at that speed - and yes, folks, anyone can have THIS for about

$ 15 K Take that and shove it in your $ 80,000 cars !

SORRY, went way off topic with this - waiting for the PHOTOS now

Not much to add from what the others have said but thank you Bob and Dan for putting this thing together. I would also like to thank everyone for still showing up with the chance for bad weather. A little disapointing that there wasn't a group car photo taken but the parking situation didn't help much either. All-in-all I had a great time. It was very nice to meet everyone.

had a great time myself, despite the brief and annoying pause to receive the souvenir from the local constabulatory outside morro bay

unfortunately, we only got to click up near 120 for a brief period - the roads were still wet through the are where we really could have hit some speed, and we had one of our group fall way back very early when we were only doing about 85 - way too many cops on the road this weekend

anyway - here are a couple of other shots

i'll get the recordings together, add the missing ones, and figure out how to post them here in a a library format - i thought it was about time somebody did it, so everybody can hear what the different exhaust systems sound like - wish we had time to do drive by recordings too

ron - with a bit of aerodynamic help, like the rs had, (different rear clip, underbody work, and bigger rear wing) these cars should clip 175 or so with 350hp, just like they did - rear lift is a big problem in the stock trim, and the drag coefficient on cabs is even worse - the power we have available, with stock aerodynamics will only give us about 160 plus or minus - remember, our speedometers are off a few at the top end (3-5), so when it says 140, you're really only doing about 137, yada yada - this also presumes no outside diameter changes in tires - worn tires will also make the speedo read high - fun nonetheless, but top speed is a hard fight - but that's half the fun, right?

glad everybody had a good time - absolutely happy to put another one together - everybody will have to let me know what they thought of their gift - i've heard great things about it, but haven't tried it myself yet - remember, put it in the freezer

hey guys I'm back online. had a rawkin good time. Let me massage the pics a bit and i'll get them up tomorrow. Dan, i've got some good ones of you with the AM.

I was very happy to lead us on the 120+ Monterey run. . . it's fun to drive fast in these cars, but it's *really* fun to look in the rearview and see a bunch of grinning nutters keeping up just fine. we had fun huh?

I am totally down to do this again. The backroads were just gorgeous. I don't think I'm ever going to take 101 south again.

thanks flash for organizing the tour - although i don't imbibe I love the romance and attention to detail. Man, we get pretty detailed with car stuff but when he started talking about choosing forests for wood for oak barrels. . .

'hey Pete, yeah it's Sean. I'd like my performance chip from the MORNING run, please, aged 18 months on French dynos. Thanks.'

all right guys good night. i'll post my pics tomorrow, i gotta get to bed.
