Have you decided on a location? Vacaville sounded great to me. Let me know and I should be able to make the trip from Chico.

Vacaville? What the hell is in Vacaville?......... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I say Treasure Island. I can bring a stack of pizzas and a cooler of sodas. We can watch the sun set over downtown SF. If not TI then Emeryville / Berkeley is good. I just don't want to have to drive too far... but whatever the people want. Let's be ironic and gather at a Japanese restaurant. I love japanese FOOD.

Sorry I thought a drive from Vacaville to Berryessa would be nice and of course a little closer for me. I'm open to Emeryville / Berkeley. Hope I didn't offend.

Don't mind FRPorscheman, he's just jelous because he couldn't come the last time.

Actually the whole Treasure Island thing sounds great. I think we only need a head count.

I will probably not be available for Bay area Meets for a while. I have family, work, school, and winemaking competing for my time so there will be very little left over for anything else.

I am planning on going down to the Monterey Historics, Sat. and Sun. both. I will be parking in the Porsche Corral if anyone else is planning on attending. After that school and the wine grape harvet begin and I will have absolutely no free time until Thanksgiving. I may make it to the ALMS race at Laguna, depending upon harvest schedule.

Just to be clear, the Historics are August 15-17th -- they are not in conflict with the July 19th meetup.

I think I can make this. And I have a 968, after six months in the shop... Resealed motor, new water pump and radiator, and a full clutch-flywheel package from RS Barn.

Did you know you can get a free car wash at Porsche of Fremont on Saturdays, 10AM - 2PM? Gets the grunge off and it's done by hand, even if I wasn't impressed by their thoroughness -- but I got there late in the game, and it was free... Something to remember if you're at Parts Heaven and realize the P-car's dirty. Does have to be a Porsche, btw, or a Mercedes.

I'm glad we can finally see your 968 instead of talk about it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

No offense taken! I just like to kid around. Oh yeah, and I'm really lazy when it comes to driving distance... mostly because I have to drive so far to get to school and I get tired of racking up the mileage. But I'm cool. Wherever y'all want to meet is fine with me.

Steve, it would be cool to see you there, in whichever Porsche you feel like bringing.

Chris, I hope all those things don't overwhelm you, and you still get a chance to enjoy the car some more this summer.

If we go with TI: I wouldn't mind bringing a few pizzas. I just need to know about how many people are coming, so I can order the appropriate number of pies. The only other thing will be chairs - it's BYOC. I have 2-3 lawn chairs I could bring.

Looks like it will just be the three of us so far. (me, Arash, smj)

It could be fun though.

We can't fall back to Fuddrukkers this meet though.

The new Batman movie will open and the parking lot will be full.

I'll try to bring my friend so that makes 4.

Arash are you planning on getting 1 pizza for every 2 people or what?

So are we doing TI then?

Yeah I was thinking 1 pizza per 2 people. But with only 3-4 people coming that means we only get 2 pizzas to choose from. Lame. Let's get more people. I'll call Sean, and I just met another owner in SF so I'll see if he wants to come. Oh yeah, pizzas are $18 for 12 slices so $1.50 each slice, don't forget to bring cash please. I'll bring soda too.

I'm fairly sertain my friend wants to come out with me.

What I'm not sure of is what I will take to drive out there.

I don't completly trust the Audi yet and the van gets 10mpg.

Hopefully we won't have to drive his Hyundai Accent. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Oh, where are you getting the pie's from?

lol - i just read this thread and started to crack up

this is starting to sound like a bunch of girls at lunch - "let's see - you had the tuna sandwich and ice tea - i had the caesar salad............"

counting slices?

come on - you're guys - you're supposed to wrestle over picking up the check, not dodging it

seriously though - a constructive tip: it's hard planning events, and i can appreciate the idea of cost control, as i have been stuck a number of times picking up the slack, but it's a lot easier to get people to come if costs are fixed - it's also a lot easier to plan these things if you take the reins and work out the details on the phone with a few key players, rather than online - the response time and success in reaching of a consensus is a lot better - then, you just let everyone know what is happening - removing the decision process from the masses is key - otherwise you end up rescheduling, and making changes almost daily - i keep trying it that way, and fail every time - i have a lot better success by calling a couple of people, picking their brains, and then just planning everything and making the announcement when i have it worked out

best of luck though - take pictures

I'll show if I can get away from baby-care duties, but no guarantees.

Treasure Island sounds good -- and good photo op. But exactly where?

Bob, you need to ease off on the snob pedal a bit. You might afford picking up the tab and we (including me) appreciate that but I'm a 24 year old grad student who can hardly afford to feed himself, let alone a group of others. You can plan events the way you want and that works for you. We are just coordinating a meet, not an event.

I thought I was being nice enough bringing the food... Why don't you trailer your car up and buy us all some prime rib? No? Wanna pick up the pizza tab then?

Rich, I was going to buy from Seniore's on 19th avenue. It's not on the way to TI but worth the detour, I believe it's among the city's best. I've never tried their pepperoni (I eat kosher) but I will bring one. I have tried their pesto/feta and their garlic chicken, and both are really good.

lol - not being snobby - i was poking fun - i realize that not everybody can afford to be extravagant or magnanimous, but we're talking about what, 50 bucks for lunch for the 4 of you? it seemed silly to be counting slices of pizza, and easier to say "bring 20 bucks"

do whatever you want - i was only making constructive points on things i have seen cause complications to successful gatherings, and things than smooth it along

by the way though, i did trailer up the car, and pick up the tab at the pizza parlor for the vacaville run (at least for those who didn't beat me to the counter) - if i had time, i'd do it again

perhaps i can start a sort of "sponsorship" of some of the events - pca does that - i'll have to put some time and thought into that (and of course clear it with the boss - lol)

OK - everyone bring 20 bucks. And I'll bring change!

PCA requires paid membership - no free lunch so to speak. I'm fine with the current arrangement, it's informal and unofficial.

lol - i was just grabbing a number, but i can't remember the last time i had lunch at something like this that it wasn't at least 20 bucks - but then, that's how i ended up floating about $100 at the paso event too - i think a few people underestimated food, drink and tip - no worries - i'm not complaining - i'm not doing any bean counting either, and am not pointing any fingers - i have no idea who did what - besides, i almost grabbed the whole thing, but it was a pretty big crowd this year, and i thought it might be weird

i realize that pca requires paid membership - that was not my point - i was merely referring to the idea that pca will contribute to events - i am contemplating that sort of idea - i want to encourage gatherings, and if it takes a small infusion of capital to make it happen, and be a big success, i don't see too much of a problem - there are far too few of these gatherings, and i want to come up with ideas that increase their frequency

i'm just spit-balling here, and i have not really thought about it much yet, but say for example, if there were a preset minimum number of participants that was met, perhaps i could cut a check or reimburse receipts or something like that

or maybe just send some materials or swag or something

i'm just thinking out loud - maybe none of this works - i'm certainly not trying to make this gathering anything other than what it is - i'm speaking more in large concept than specifics
