June 3rd 2012 Partsheaven Swap meet
#1

Wow, how has no one posted about this one?

http://www.partsheaven.com/Articles.asp?ID=249

This coming Sunday the 3rd of June 2012 there will be a huge swap meet for Porsche parts. If you need parts this is the place to be. The oddest parts can be found at this meet, plus there will be a concours. I will attend, anyone else?

Nah, went once and will never go again ( not just Parts Heaven, but ANY swap meet ) - 99 % crap , and may be a 1% chance of stumbling upon a unique find.. But I must say, if you're sourcing stuff for your 968 any other day of the year Parts Heaven and all of their staff is as great of a place as you'll ever find in the entire US, but it's just the swap meets that suck all over and are a colossal waste of time, IMHO..

You sound jaded. Are you still in pain?

Ha, ha.. No pain whatsoever . I'm still amazed by all of this, I really expected the knee to feel a bit stiff and mildly painful for at least a few days, but nothing !! Now I'm starting to doubt they did anything, and probably just scammed the insurance company, lol !!

Nah, not jaded, just the swap meets I've seen are even worse than flea markets ..the one at German Auto Fest in Ventura had nothing but a bunch of old rusted s**t, and the Parts Heaven one to which I went a few years ago was not much different ..

Hershey has rusted parts but also other items. I wonder what folks feel about that one?

I've never been to one, but I was curiously hopeful. Now maybe not so much. No need to worry about it here in the Northeast really, we don't have a swap meet other than Hershey, that I'm aware of.

I recall there were maybe three or four " real vendors " ( like Elephant Racing ) displaying some samples of their products , but the rest of the items were old, oily, or rusted parts brought by folks who I guess did not have the heart to toss them in the garbage.. But maybe it has changed a lot since I've been to that one, could be there is a bunch more useful stuff .. But those events always make for good conversation with Porsche enthusiasts so I,m not trashing the event, just the trash parts I recall seeing at those swap meets

ok - i can weigh in here. over the years, i've been to swap meets all over the country. they are all pretty much the same. a bunch of people trying to dump their crap on somebody else. once in a while you find a gem, but it's definitely the exception. you can find some "so so" stuff if you're willing to compromise or are really on a tight budget, but it's extremely hard to find anything really good.

i'm pretty much on the same page with dan here.

i don't go to these anymore with any idea of finding anything. i go to see other people who are also there. i've skipped the long beach event the last couple of years, but really just because it's at a bad time of year for me. for whatever reason, many of these swap meets are early in the year and often experience rain. i realize it's the "pre spring" marketing opportunity, but it really doesn't help attendance or participation when everybody wants to go home and get dry. the other side of the coin is what they used to do with the ventura event (which was the largest one in the country) and they threw it in scorching september. indoors makes the most sense, but would cost too much, and defeat the purpose. clearly i'm no help here.

in the end, i'd rather buy new, and then enjoy driving the car, rather than spend my weekend walking around a bunch of junk.
