Rt rear tire wear
#1

Some wrench awhile back told me the rt rear tire wears the fastest because it is the "drive tire". Don't know if this is true, but the rt rear tire is balding, while the left rear is worn, it's not nearly as bad. the fronts are still good. car rides , handles fine. do not have a possi or slip differential transaxle. any comments would be great. this is my commute ride, about 80 mi round trip. last had all 4 tires changed in june 2007. could this be an alignment issue as well?

Sounds to me like your "wrench" was correct...

Your wrench is right. Rotating the tires every 5,000 miles or so will usually even up the wear as well as checking the air pressure on a regular basis.

It sure could be an alignment issue as well. The rear wheels on our car can be adjusted for camber as well as toe-in and if the alignment isn't correct, premature wear is a good warning sign. My rear tires wear faster than the fronts, but usually about the same side - to side. Good luck, Bob Blackwell

Happens on my car every set of rears. I simply swap the rears by taking them off the rims and putting them on the other side to rotate in the same direction. That way I can rotate even with unidirectional tires. I was getting about 17,000 km a set but once I started doing this I increased that to about 26,000 km and very even. Recommend it.

Any tire place can lift the 968, no problem. Bob Blackwell.

Guys, thanks for "raising" the lift problem.

I have had some trips to Discount tire lately, had a couple of slow leaks (very odd), but they found and repaired the punctures.

They have these bench type lifts, rather wide, covered with a rubber material, a long platform that lifts the car right along the rocker panel, only raise the car enough to take the wheels off. They are probably specialized to tire shops only. I've been asking them to please not use those, but use a floor jack. Was worried that those bench-type lifts would harm the shark fins, or the mounting tabs underneath.

Anybody can shed some light on this potential problem? Are those bench-type lifts ok on the rocker panels?

Thanks!
Roland

I just spoke with porshe service and they told me as long as the lift has adjustable pads that can be elevated and then placed at the lift points on the frame it should be ok. Mr Blackwell can you elaborate a little more on the lift issues we have. Thnx
