because it feels like my rear wheel is about to fall off
#1

So, I just replaced the rear rotors and pads. I had done the front about 3 weeks ago, and of course it took more time than I expected, but I finally finished the job. Everything went well with the change. but 2 days ago, hours after finishing the job, just as I was about to get home on the freeway (75-80mph) one of the rear wheels developed an instability. I have 5mm spacers on the rear, they are not hub centric. I bought the spacers from wheel enhancement. They are simple flat plates that center themselves on the flange of the hub (this flange on the hub is not long enough to still center the wheel. I think the spacers would need to be a little thicker to allow them to have their own central flange to locate the wheel.

Basically, What I think is happening is that the wheel is temporarily shifting out of center. The shaking doesn't stop until I shed almost all of the speed. I have never had any shaking issues, and I have had the spacers for over a year. I just checked the lugs again and they are tightened to spec.

I had the same issue happen again this morning going about 75mph. Again the shaking didn't stop until I was going pretty slow. I took a look at the wheels, checked the lugs, everything was tight.

Anybody had any experience with this kind of an issue? My plan is to get rid of the spacers. I could afford to space the wheels further out and purchase spacers with built in flanges for the wheels, but then I would need to get longer studs as well.

Any insight?

Cheers

Phil

I had spacers before. If the mating surfaces are dirty, such as a sand grain from lying them flat on a dirty surface, they will shake. Be sure the mating surfaces are very clean. Btw, mine were also from wheel enhancement.
