windscreen wiper arm spline.
#1

Hi all. Could someone help me out and tell me if the spline that the wiper arm mounts onto is tapered or parallel? Ta.

Tapered (conical).

Would it be compatible with any other manufacturer's arms? There are two "camps" on this forum. One who thinks that the wipers obstruct the view to the front and are ugly, and one who see's no problem. I'm in the former and would like to find an arm that was lower/closer (went mostly straight across/perpendicular to the spindle, rather than doglegging up then back down).

If I'm not mistaken, several people got non-OEM arms. Flash being one of them. Not sure which brand though.

not me - i have turbo s arms.

on a note: the "dogleg" is there to provide better swept area due to geometry, as well as increased downforce. a straight arm will not do as well. this may or may not be a problem for a particular driver. on the subject of straight arms, make sure the spring tension is correct, or the blade will lift at road speed.

Flash - I knew yours were not standard. What's the difference between the two? Mine are due for replacement, so maybe I better opt for Turbo S's?

just some aerofoil wing thingies on them to catch air and force them down more. good luck finding them.

Ah, one of those parts are they? I hope living next to the 'mother country' brings me some luck. :-)

I don't live in an area where I can do the "wiper delete" thing, but I know I haven't used them more than once a year. I also don't travel at super high rates of speed, so from a functional standpoint, my wipers don't have to do much. Looks are more important than function.

The damn things flutter as soon as you go over 150 mph, so for the next 20 mph they simply annoy you...

lol - pretty sure straight ones will flutter at about 80. there is a buffet zone at the base of the windshield. that's why the Turbo RS had a deflector there.
