968 balance belt tensioner stack up.

Correction to my last post: Found the inner shim after cleaning off the pivot shaft - it was plastered against the inner shaft shoulder.

 

Would still appreciateadvice on lube and whether I need to replace O-rings.

I replaced them, if the tensioner is floppy it allows the belt to wander about on the pulleys

Yes a model year change. When I re-did my early '92 I had the same confusion - I purchased a new stud to replace the old and the new was different as described - it came in with the two o-rings and waistline where the grease goes. My old pivot arm would not get over the o-rings.

 

In the end, I just was generous with the grease and called it a day. The old pivot arm was nice and secure on the newer stud. P38 I can't remember what grease I used. I think there is a spec in the factory manual and that is what I went with.
