Voltage Regulator and Guage
#1

Well...Busy day today. Got the replacement VR in from Paragon. Purchased the Bosch version and installed it. Since I had the Battery disconnected, I replaced the Oil Pressure/Ampmeter Gauge I received from Oklahoma Foreign Auto Parts. OK Auto gave me a great price and a 90 warranty on the replacement gauge.

I decided to pull the airbag and steering wheel to pull the gauge cluster rather than waste time trying to figure the angle out. I know it can be done as I did it on my old 944. The pull wasn't difficult, just time consuming. I changed out all bulbs since I was already in there and didn't want to have to pull it again.

Got everything back together and reconnected the battery, cranked it up and got 13.7 VDC from the alternator and the gauge works great as it is no longer pegged at 16+ VDC and now agrees with the Fluke meter. I have the old gauge if anyone is tempted to troubleshoot it to determine what broke and if there is a way to repair. Unfortunately...a trip to the dealership is now required due to the Airbag light staying illuminated and requiring them to reset it. Wish I had a tester to do it myself.

I pulled (de-modified) the OEM car phone system today as the phone was never provided when I bought the car from the original owner. I installed the cassette/arm rest (yep, OK Foreign Auto again). I de-skinned it and installed leather in place of the leatherette and replaced the Foam inside the lid as well. I also replaced the shift boot (Alan Gunn Leather) as the old one was showing it's age. The car only has 38K on it but needed ALLOT of love. All thats left is to do is pull and repaint the bumpers and skirts due to road rash. That'll happen in a month or two. Jeez...Car is almost new again.

Yeah...I think it's a mission to bring it back to as new new as I can. I drove a new one back in '94 when my 944 was getting so work done and fell in lust back then. Been wanting one since but the price was never too good or the car was buggered up. I never see them around here (Atlanta area) so when this one popped up, I had to go for it.

The forum is the driving force for me. I see allot of nice mods and SWEET machines. I'll be visiting your site you make a few purchases when I am ready to pull the bumpers. Are the mouth and lower grill replacements steel or are they aluminum?

The grilles are aluminum. I have more details and pictures on my site if you click the thumbnails on the main page.
