I found another 15-25hp in the SC kit.
#1

As an indirect result of having to build my engine, it looks like I have found a way to increase the output of the SC Kit by what should be between 15hp and 25hp.

This will NOT increase peak boost.

This will NOT require any crazy ignition system.

This will NOT require injector changes.

This will NOT significantly alter the tailpipe emissions.

This will NOT void your D1R SC Kit warranty.

This will NOT void your Rotrex warranty.

This WILL make the engine run more safely.

This WILL be a complete "soup to nuts" package.

It will be a straight forward installation of some additional components, and should take about 1.5 hours for the average back yard mechanic. No special tools will be required.

Technically this will no longer fit into what was certified by CARB. However, as there are no photos in the certification paperwork, and the description leaves room for this to have been there all along, it is incredibly unlikely that any technician will ever know that it is different. Besides, it will not significantly alter the tailpipe emissions, and may not change them at all.

I will be doing the development and testing in the next few weeks.

I anticipate the retail cost of all of the components, which will come in a kit, at $700.

I don't want to go into any more details right now, as I really don't need to have any more of my stuff copied (so I will be registering this design), but I wanted to see how many of the guys who bought kits might be stepping up for this.

I might as well get it and just install it along with the kit since I'm in batch 3, so... I'm in <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I don't have a SC kit , but put me down for $700 for 15-25 HP..<img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

If it's the same price as the 15hp option, sign me up for the 25hp option. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Could this kit also benefit non-supercharged cars?

I know your in due process to protect you intellectual/design property but is there a hint at an announcement date? I only ask because the car is still missing pieces so if your really close to a reveal date I won't madly assemble the card when I get my parts next week. Dying to get it on the road but if your mod requires moving stuff out of the way then I better have another beer and just wait.

The S2 is nice but it aint no SC 968 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

i thought yours was done?

don't wait for this stuff. it could easily be the end of summer before it's ready. i won't let it out without extensive testing. i'm not inclined to slap something together in a few days, do a couple of dyno runs, and call it "done". we've seen how well that goes. that's just not how i work. but then, that's why the stuff works like it says on the tin.

it's still at least 3 weeks before i even start on it. i have to have mine back together and running in baseline condition before i start. then i can work out the physical stuff and make it work on my car. but because mine is different now than the rest now, it won't be the same.

then, when i am done and satisfied with that, i will make a similar setup for the rest of the cars, built specifically for that setup, and test it on one of those. this is not all that different than major manufacturers do things when they are developing something for their race car, and then trickling a version down to production.

when all of that is done, and i am confident it will be universally successful, then i can reproduce it for everybody else.

i would figure at least 3 months before i could have them ready to go out. if i am miraculously able to do it sooner, i will, but knowing how things tend to go, that's what i would figure on.

Sounds good. You know how the Internet works, no voice inflections to key off of. I though it was something you had already been tinkering with and release was imminent. I shall assemble and drive until you work your magic!

hmmm - no - if you read above, it said "I will be doing the development and testing in the next few weeks."

because this is pushing the envelope a bit, i need to be especially careful that i don't push too far. testing will be fairly extensive, considering what i am talking about. i don't want to give up any of the reliability of the kit as it stands, nor do i want to require people to do any crazy stuff, like get higher octane fuel or any such silly thing. this has to be universally applicable, and plug and play. the good news though is that this unit is so efficient (i am running in the 80% adiabatic efficiency area), and has such superior cooling features, that it is pretty easy to get more power than any other unit out there.

i anticipate no issues, and it should put down a net peak of somewhere about 260 ft/lbs and 280 hp at the wheels. we'll see how it goes, and what i can reproduce safely.

i always anticipated delving into a "stage 2" kit, but never intended to increase boost to do it. this add-on will generate more power, and consequently cost more, but will be a direct "bolt on upgrade" to the existing kit. there will be no weird standalone setups, no injector changes, no race gas requirements, and no pulley or belt changes.

i look forward to revealing the design.
