1 Design 1 Racing Supercharger Kit left
#1

well, we have finally come to the end. i had a bit of a run of sales over the last couple of weeks, and now there is only 1 kit left. i was going to keep it for myself, in case i wanted to do the white car some day, but i poked around here and found enough of the difficult stuff to cobble together a kit if i ever decide to do that. so, this last one can be sold.

after that, it will take a miracle for any more to ever get made. i have to run the stuff in batches, if there is any chance of it making financial sense for anybody, and managing to keep the wife off my back about this stuff. i just don't see any of that happening. my guess is that we will need to see either a huge boom in the economy, or a pretty significant turnover of owners. neither of which is on any kind of horizon.

so, if anybody is on the fence, act now. after this one is gone, that's likely to be it.

it's all done a la carte on the D1R website. you can put this together one of 4 ways:

1. you can get the standard stage 1 kit, which is comprised of the Hardware Kit, the Rotrex Sub-Assembly, and the Stage 1 Tuning.

2. you can do all of that, and upgrade to Stage 2

3. you can do both 1 and 2, and then upgrade to stage 3.

4. if you are really seeking the maximum, you would get the Hardware Kit and the unmodified Rotrex Supercharger and tune it yourself

Damn, tough decision - if I ever find that Tip 968 to use as a DD I'd want to have it SCd also but it's a bit crazy spending that kind of money just to have the kit sit in the garage, for perhaps many years, on a faint hope / slim chance that I'll find another 968 to my liking ( since I'm so damn picky.. ). Oh well, one of you guys will snatch that last kit no doubt.. just don't wait too long, I make impulsive decisions and might just decide to " put the cart before the horse " and grab it . LOL

OK, I'm curious, but please pardon my ignorance. I'm looking at the D1R page in light of what flash says above.

So, to 'get in the game' the essentials I need are, for example 1) the stage 1/2/(3?)Rotrex subassembly for $2295, and the Stage 3 tuning kit for $389, a total of 2684 base price. OR 2) the hardware only kit for 2395 + the Rotrex unit for 1995, a total of 4390.

What does one get for the additional $1706 when ordering the 'separate components'? (I dont understand what's involved in 'seeking the maximum' as flash says. But I presume that means I would also be spending for a bit of dyno time?

Thanks

MLB - i listed what was required to build a kit, with 4 different versions, but i'll try to clarify.

no matter which way you go, you need the hardware kit. that is all of the components required to mount and connect the supercharger in the car. it does not include the rotrex.

then you need a rotrex, whether it is the sub-assembly for stage 1, 2 or 3, or the unmodified one for tuning it yourself.

then if you choose 1, 2 or 3, you need the tuning for that, and as you go up, you have to add that tuning (you can't skip)

seeking the maximum means tuning it yourself. you get no tuning from me. this generally means a standalone and injectors, a fuel pump, and regulator.

Flash it kills me that I haven't been able to pick up the SC. But the car, even if it were running right now, still isn't ready - would need to do the head gasket. If 'someday' ever comes around again, and I still own the car, I'll most likely be on the list.

I bet. If you have enough time, cash and ingenuity, you can accomplish much. If I had not just bought the car, spent 4K to get it on the road and were not looking at upwards of another 3K on the transaxle rebuild I would seriously consider taking it off your hands.

I just got mine installed on Wednesday and couldn't be happier; great support for any question you'll ever have with the install. These are a great bargain and if you can do relatively simple maintenance like changing your own oil, spark plugs, or fuel filter you can save money and install this kit yourself!

I just saw one of these for sale on a car on ebay. I haven't bought a car yet. What kind of gains are you getting with the super charger. What are downsides? Can the engine take the extra heat.

I think the one on eBay is a 928 Motorsports brand, whereas this is a Design 1 Racing brand. I had a bit of extra heat to deal with coincidentally, but I don't know that it was the supercharger, and a change of thermostat seemed to help (I used the same stock thermostat, not the lower-range one). Increases in hp and torque are posted as charts here in the forums.

Peter B,

Read my thread about the 928 Motorsports kits -PLEASE DON'T GO THERE. It has taken me two years and lots of heartache to get the kit to work. I can understand why someone is selling their car if it has this kit on it. You have to be a bit masochistic to want to fix someone else's problems.

Plug and play it is not. You will be up for lots more than just the kit itself.

I now have two of Flash's kits (one has been in storage while we have been moving around, and will hopefully be my excuse for buying a cabriolet, the other I ordered following the last round of issues I had). Although my car, just tuned well, I still have not tracked it to see if the internal drive belt for the SC will last.

Flash's kit is a bargain. I think I should have got a discount for all of the free recommendations I have given.

Read the reviews of his kit and see if his customers are happy. Hopefully he will stop making them and those that have kits un-installed will be able to make money on them (I probably won't due to import duties and freight - but you can only hope).

Craig if you get a discount I want one. I spend countless hours answering questions at the track about the sc and plugging design 1. Actually as I have told Bob it's amusing to watch grown men slobber over it!
