down to the last Supercharger Kit
#1

well, it's finally come down to the last kit. i had rummaged through my stuff and put together a couple of kits. i am keeping one for myself, in the event i ever want to do the white car, but other than that, there is only one kit left. with me being incredibly busy, and no thoughts of making anymore of these, it looks like this is it. it has been a fun run though.

well, that's it. the last one has now sold. unless and until i change things significantly with D1R and how it operates, there will be no more. basically, due to the complexity of the package, and the need for tight quality control, i cannot continue to produce these. if i find a partner, or a fulfillment center, or something along those lines, then i can revisit this. i can't even think about it for quite some time though. until then, they are all gone.

Flash,

Did you make it to 50 kits?

Could be the most numerous 968 SC kit ever made and sold.

Congratulations.

Flash,

Were there many changes - minor and/or major - between the first and the last kit, or did you get it basically right the first time?

What would you have done differently if you would had known what you know now?

Import duty and shipping made the cost prohibitive for me in the UK, but well done Flash for even attempting this kit. I'm sure those that were able to get one will be forever grateful to you.

So what kind of power were you guys getting from the SC kit?

dude - no changes really. the first batch was my "beta" run. i changed a couple of pulleys, and the belt guard, and then retrofitted the first batch with those new parts.

done differently? hmmm - maybe held back a bit longer on release? not sure. probably wouldn't have second guessed myself on stage 2, and gone straight to stage 3.

stage 3 makes a bit over 300hp and about 300 lb/ft, in a really big wide flat curve. charts are here.

Wish I had stage 3, but I am very happy with stage 1. For those of you who don't know I had my SC kit sitting on my bedroom floor for 3 years and finally got it installed in late 2012. Having my first child on the way & renovating my house put my 968 on the "back burner" for a while. After driving it maybe 2 times post install in 2012 I started driving it again in 2014 and I am loving it!

Forgot to mention. I've owed my 1995 since 2002 and this SC kit gives it the shot in the ass it needs!

The thing that strikes me about this, and all of the D1R products is the transparency that Bob employs in his development process. It has sometimes been painful for me to see how the sausage is made as I wade through 176 posts about how something is almost right. Another vendor tried to create a supercharger and put a product on the market in 2 weeks that failed miserably and left the buyers struggling to make a bunch of crappy parts work; most failed or surrendered.

I will firmly attest that the D1R products on my 968 have always been right on the mark the first time and remain on my 968 to this day, I have never had a failure or a miscue of any kind for any of the products on my car (that includes the prototype pieces as well).

I know that this is a small market with very few owners and even fewer who are willing to go down the slippery modification slope, and that this is a personal relationship as much as it is a business for Bob, but can I say that the customer service for his projects are unrivaled from any vendor large or small. My 968 experience would be a lot less enjoyable without your thoughtful development.

Bravo on this, and all of your products!

I have experienced the same result with these products on both of my 968's. The only thing I would respectfully disagree with Jay is with his characterization of the slippery modification slope. It has been my experience that there is no slope involved. It is more analogous to either jumping off a cliff or into a bottomless pit! You may have a shute but one still drifts straight down.

Was just re-reading this thread... Hmmm, it looks like I'm one of the last one's that bought a stage 3 - it's at Bobs waiting to be installed - and boy am I looking forward to it! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/EmoticonCar.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I truly regret not getting a supercharger from Bob but couldn't justify the cost at the time. But really happy I ordered from his last two batches of parts.
