I was driving a 1983 944 which as many of you know was way underpowered, when the 968 first appeared on the scene. As I recall the cars got likewarm reviews in the motoring press with the exception of Excellance Magazine. Excellance ran several articles on 968s, so, while having the Audi I owned at the time serviced, I took a 968 out for a spin and was immediately hooked. The car had such a nice balanced feel and the extra power was wonderful, and it was expensive, so I decided I would wait and see if I could acquire a nice lease return or a low mileage used example. It took me a few years to find what I was looking for. I picked up a 1994 Coupe with only 21,000 miles on it. For all intents and purposes it was a new car that required a new clutch and rear tires. I got it at a below market price because the owner needed a quick cash sale.

Just goofing around on Autotrader looking at cheap cars for my kid. Came across a nice looking (but what turned out to be a mechanical disaster) example. I had never seen on before and just become enamored with the styling. Had to have one. 2 weeks later I was driving 400 miles to look at another and bought it. An impulse purchase of the first order. Likely would not have plunged without this forum though. These things leak oil to beat the band, and I always steer clear of used cars with active oil leaks. Leanred that it's 'normal' in a P, and figured what the hell, I must have some cardboard to put on the garage floor.



Love the beast - powerful, angry, sexy and composed all at the same time.

Listed by a dealer in Maplewood MN. I called to ask about it and was told, "this is the price". Best example in the country,etc. Got the name of the mechanic who had been servicing the car and asked about condition that was described as "Showroom"



The Biotech bubble gods were smiling on me in the Winter of 2000 so I purchased it for $30k with 16,000 miles. Happy 38th birthday.

I was actively searching for a 951 and came across a 968 in NH thru Autotrader. Rented a car, drove up w/ a check in hand - went for a PPI and turned the rental car into the airport in Manchester NH and drove my new 968 home to PA that same day.

I was an avid motorcycle collector, rider, and restorer until June, 2000, when I suffered a serous spinal injury, ironically not from a motorcycle accident, but from a ladder fall in my front yard. My 46 motorcycles became somewhat useless to me from that point on due to paralysis in my lower legs.



My best friend and riding partner sensed my disappointment over the loss of the motorcycle hobby so began a secret hunt for the "next best thing" to a motorcycle--a 968 tiptronic cab. He eventually found one for sale locally and took me for a "mystery ride" to see it. I fell in love immediately and bought it the same day (without an inspection btw.)



I'm now on my second 968 cab and am still in love/lust.

Had belt tensioning at Princeton Porsche after replacing the head on my '87 944. Saw the 968 in the

lot and asked the service manager about the car. That was about three years ago.



He was very cool, and passed on my phone number

to the owner, and the rest is history. The car had 44K miles - now has 61K. The handling is basically the same, with a bit more of a "muted" steering feel, and tons more power, which I really enjoy. Now having done a number of mods, I feel that the car is just about where I need it to be. I think the styling is fantastic and I am thrilled to drive it every day.

Basicly the same.

I wanted a 951S but I couldn't get financed. A 968 showed on Craigslist and it fit the bill. After a nice test drive I bought it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Was looking for a 1980's 911 Targa (still kinda am) and stumbled across mine on Autotrader at Park Place over in Bellevue, WA...quite simply (and somewhat superficially) - black, cashmere (perfect! it's a sign) and wow - what kind of Porsche is THAT?



Went, looked, pretended I wasn't going to buy it, bought it. Now I have other people asking me..."What kind of Porsche is THAT?"

I was in the market for a car after my ex took the Nissan Altima with her when we split up. I was gonna buy an Acura RSX or Integra - I need a hatchback for hauling music equipemnt around.



Anyhow - I parked behind a green 968 one night and said. . . yeah I remember those! Looked at a few, flew out to Colorado and almost bought one in San Jose, before I bought the one I own sight-unseen on ebay with a Buy It Now, had it shipped from Florida to San Fran. Haven't looked back - the car's been great! w00t!

I wanted a Porsche for ever. Who didn't right?!! I cut my teeth on all kinds of VW's from Golf to Jetta to Scirocco to my beloved Corrado so when my kids were finally High School graduates and eager to move out of the house, I obliged of course. What's a loving father to do?



It was wierd how, at about the same exact time, I began to see a huge chunk of money in my account left over at the end of the month. Yeah, easy math... no kids in the house = more money in the bank. Cool. I like this new math!!!



I had been doing extraneous amounts of research trying to figure which Porsche model I really wanted and could afford in the long run.



I was ready to settle for a later model 911/993 but wasn't convinced about the whole air-cooled "engine in the trunk" philosophy. 996 was the next obvious choice but the prices went up (alot) with the newer model and maintenance costs with it. More research led to the discovery of problems with 996 engines etc., so my search continued.



928 was really starting to look like the route I'd be taking. But what year? I looked and researched, and looked and researched and came to find out that 928's are awesome cars but the maintenance can sometimes equal "2nd mortgage". I drove a couple of my friends 928's over long weekends and I fell in love with the silky smooth power, touring car comfort and obvious good looks. Very nice.



My 928 research led me into the 944/951/968 end of the Porsche spectrum. I stumbled across dozens of fantastic websites that supported all forms of the model. As I continued to do my research, I began to see the light.



968 is modeled after many other beautiful Porsche body styles so why not get it all in one car? Intoxicating good looks, thin waist line, perky hips, smmmoooooth power, 6-speed gearbox, and thanks mostly to the 944, readily available and reasonably priced parts.



My search was over.



I shopped everywhere and found wildy varying prices and conditions of 968's from coast to coast. In my hesitation to slap down the greenbacks, my "travel agent" finally decided to allow me to return to my dearly beloved Germany.



Enter eBay.



I found the car of my dreams, called and spoke to the dealership/owner and made the purchase on the 4th of July. I had the car picked up from the lot and shipped in a covered transfer van from Miami up to Jax where it was put into a 20 foot Sea-Land type container and sat staged in the lot for two months. The container was loaded onto the wrong ship and sailed toward South America, Venezuela, Columbia and back around some of the Carribean islands. Nice vacation for the car. Freaking unbelievably stressfull for me while I tracked my car to where I figured it would get dropped off at some port and that would be the end of the story. It wound up back in Jax just in time for hurricane season and sat until finally the shipping company figured out what had happened. They loaded it onto the correct ship this time and sent it to Germany where I received my long-distance lover on November 11th, Labor Day! Five months after the purchase!



The car arrived filthy and with a dead battery. The car was completely stock, zero modifications. Her first day in Germany was spent very cautiously cruising the autobahn from Bremerhaven back to our house in Wuerzburg.



I love my car and have been thrilled with it since the day we met. Every time I get in and turn the key, it's like another first date!!! I'm in love all over again.

Another internet blind date here.



I used to own one of 968's older sisters, a 1983 944. Compared to the Ford Ranger I had been in just prior, the 944 was a bullet! When I moved to Germany on the U.S. government's tab, I had to choose between the family car and the 944 (which was beat to hell) to take overseas. Sold the 944, with every intention of eventually upgrading to a 968. 1 year (almost to the day) from moving back from Germany (I woulda bought a CS there, but the cost of converting to US specs would have doubled the price of admission - too much for my wallet), I finally made the purchase.



For about three months I scoured the ads on Rennlist, 968.net (not up to date), 968forums, eBay, Auto Trader... and finally found one on cars.com. And I leave in 15 days to go pick her up! I can NOT wait!

Like several others, I had been looking for a 951S but didn't find the right car and the right price. Actually, everything I found that was nice enough to want was overpriced in my opinion.



Enter eBay. While searching for 951s, I stumbled upon 968s and quickly remembered how nice they were. I found my car on eBay, was the high bidder but didn't hit the seller's reserve. We connected via e-mail, negoiated without ever talking, and I took the train from Delaware, where I was living at the time, to Westport, CT to bring it home.
