Central Locking question
#1

If my doors are locked with the central locking button and I turn off the key, the central locking button will not unlock the doors. I have to turn the key back on and hit the central locking button. Is this wrong?

I wouldn't think so, there's no reason for it to be hot all the time... I suppose if it's in use, you'd have to unlock the doors before turning the key.

I'm not sure how it interacts with the alarm, but if you had the top off someone could unlock the doors through the opening.

The central locking switch will only lock without the car ignition turned on. The car will not unlock unless the car ignition in on.

OK, Thanks. At least now I know that it's working correctly. I wish Porsche had done this differently, because my wife likes to lock the doors, and when we get to the destination, I don't remember to unlock until I've already taken the keys out of the ignition. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Hmmm - mine locks without the key in the ignition.

Maybe UK cars aren't quite the same.......

this one has puzzled me for a while now, but i've rather ignored it - i can't understand why the car has the feature to begin with - can somebody explain that one to me? other than locking them for the sake of paranoia against car jackers, which usually results in damage to the car or worse anyway, why would you lock the doors from the inside?

i must be missing something

i'm thinking i want to delete this feature from the car - i've accidentally hit the button a couple of times and it's really quite annoying

My wife always hits the button when she feels we are going through a seedy part of town, which a lot of people would probably chalk up to paranoia.

Flash, can you unlock with the key off?

so, then, there isn't really any other reason to do it? i certainly understand the sense of security it would tend to give someone, even though, it's has been found to be a false one, since the people who would car jack you usually get pissed off and punch the window and worse - they say the best thing to do is just give them the car and not do anything, including locking your doors and such, because of the violent tendencies that are just exacerbated by doing that

crazy world

and i'll chaeck later today on that for you - i never hit the button intentionally, but i don't think so - i think that was what was so annoying - i'd be cleaning the car and hit it and then had to go find the danged key

I always wondered about this functionality. The central locking feature is nice because the key can control both doors and you can fit an aftermarket remote - not that I have yet.

As for the switch, it is the same that I had in my S2. Perhaps it is just an old holdover design that Porsche did not update in the early 90s for cost reasons.
