Rear hatch won't open
#1

....... Only by using the manual trunk cable. Well the motor sounds like it's working but the release mechanism is stationary. Before dissassembling it this weekend....any advice?? Maybe a broken cable??? Any plastic gears like the sunroof??? Thanks.

Crawl in the back of the car and unsanp the carpet at the back. On the left and right there are 2 black plastic covers that go over the hatch dog mechanism. Leading from them toward the center of the car are 2 metal rods. Pull on the rods and the latch mechanism will operate and the hatch should open. If that fails you may have a rod that has jumped it's ball/socket, I had that once in my S2. You will have to probably remove the black cover to get it back on.

PS No plastic gears, you can't break much.

The two rods have the sockets which click over plastic balls on the lid latches. You may find a broken off plastic ball in the socket end of a rod. It's quite a challenge removing this as it's hard white plastic and goes round-and-round defying all attempts at removal.
If this is the case then a new / replacement Rear Flap Lock ( Lid Latch ) will be the only solution.

Well crap!!!! I removed the motor cover and found that the little armature is broke. It connects the release cable to the motor. Now the million $$$$$$$ question!!!! Does anyone have one off a burned up release motor?
