left door handle
#1

Crap! I just had my car painted which took 2 weeks longer than promised. As I was untaping the door handle for installation, the left actuating lever broke. I am going on a 2400 mile trip to Porsche Palooza in the Ozark mountains on Wednesday after noon.

Any body have a handle that could be air frieghted for Tuesday?

I would attempt to braze the rod if you could find someone with a propane or acetylene/oxy setup. Or is it aluminium? Can't remember what the rod is made of.

Thanks, The piece that broke is pot metal. I dont know of anything that will repair that crap. I found a pic of the part & it seems to be stocked in Atlanta. By looking at the handle, I can't see how to change it. It has a pressed in rivet that will have to be ground off then the new part pressed in. I only have a bench vice with hand tools & dremmel. Wish me luck.

I recall that same thing, or close to it, happening to someone else here and I think they did a DIY on the door handle. Not sure where but to quote someone infamous - "Search is your friend" <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Hooraayyy! I think it is fixed. I ordered the part from Suncoast (my dealer). I also ordered 2 of the pins. Used the dremel mill to take off the rivet & a nail to drive out the pin.

If you have to do this repair, notice that the new pin has a slot for an e-clip. I am heading to the hardware store 1st thing next am.
