the parts are at the welder now.  he should be done with them at the end of the weekend.  then the powder coater.  if all goes well, i will be putting things in the boxes next week, finishing up by the end of the weekend with the powder coated stuff, and shipping out.

Only been on this board 2 or so years now, so I missed the discussion on stage 2 and what it was, as it is no more.

Quick question on the injectors, what is the expected lifespan, and would I be able to use stock injectors if for some reason down the road I can not find similar spec injectors?  Or do I need a new chip, and if I need a new chip, any plans to either sell those chips or gasp, opensource it Smile

In fact, and off topic, Bob, not sure what you are planning to do with the designs and R&D (and design 1 racing as a whole), but if there was interest in you selling the rights, cad drawings, etc for the kits, so that we could opensource it, would you and for how much?

This is assuming a bunch of us supercharger owners kicked in and contributed.

I am a big fan of opensource, and recognize that you Bob did a lot of work, and deserve to make a profit, but if this is going to be abandoned would be cool if crowd sourcing continued to fund it via labor and not finacial contributions etc.

It is very easy to set up a github.com site with all the drawings and code, along with a foundation to protect it from being "stolen" but someone else and trying to sell parts as there own.

The long term intention is to make it easy for someone to modify and contribute back, or use this to make their own kits.  Other than the original designer credit  Bob of course and his company would not be liable for anything.

you will not be able to use the OEM injectors with stage 3.  you can use them with stage 1.  by ordering the stage 1 kit, you automatically get that chip.  the stage 3 upgrade comes with another chip.  they are not interchangeable.  3 works with the 3 injectors.  1 works with the OEM injectors.

the injector lifespan should be the same as the OEM units.  they will require the same maintenance too.

contact me directly and we can discuss selling the rights et al.

Thanks, I don't have either bit, waiting on those to ship Smile

So are you saying I will get two sets of chips since I ordered both stage 1 and 3 at the same time?

Thanks!

FINALLY got the danged nosecones back from the powder coater yesterday afternoon.  really glad this is the last batch.  he really blew it on timing, and i still have to get the last bits of masking tape off of them.  cheap, good, or fast, pick any two.  so glad to be done with this stuff.

i'm going to spend the weekend putting this stuff together.  pretty good chance some of the kits go out monday, with the rest right on the heels of those.

Looking forward to the sc, chassis brace, short shifter and ps tensioner. This will pretty much complete my D1R conversion.

man this is taking a lot longer than it used to to box up.  i spent a lot of time this weekend and yesterday, and i still have a ways to go.  heck, it took nearly half a day just to label all of the baggies.  i thought it would be easier in the new location, but it's turning out to be a lot harder.  i can't spread out like i used to.  i don't have all the tools at the ready, and i don't remember everything i use, so i keep having to go back and forth.  it has been a LOT harder with the hardware inventory too.  i keep finding that i am short on this bolt or that.  the pulleys didn't get cut, so they are now at a different machinist.  still waiting on a couple of regulators to finish up a couple of the kits.  it's all coming together, but it is a process.  there are over 200 parts in the kit, and keeping track of that is a bear.  i'll be working on it again today.  really looking forward to being done with this once and for all.

it seems that this batch is just refusing to stop being a pain in the ass.  after all of the other stuff, the idler pulleys didn't get machined.  ok - got that done now.  then, i got just about everything all packed up, and then went to pack up the radiator brackets, and found that the sheet metal shop failed to weld on the nuts for the adjusters.  the guy i used to go through is no longer there, and he didn't put that in the production notes.  i had to have them make a new batch on super rush.  i should have them any time now and can finally ship these things out.

really sorry guys.  i know everybody has been extremely patient, and this is ridiculous.  this is exactly why i shut things down 2 years ago though, and why i am really closing down when i run out of stuff.  i just can't stay on top of this stuff anymore.

when the sheet metal shop opens this morning, i am going to find out when they are delivering.  if it isn't this week, i am shipping the kits without them, and will send them separately

ok - i have begun shipping what i could complete, and i am just about done packing up the rest of the kits.  the first one goes out first thing monday morning, and the rest will go out tuesday afternoon.  those kits that will be missing things, will have a note in them telling what is missing.  those parts will arrive separately.  they are in powder coating, so should not be long.

if you can wait a couple of days for the brackets that i would have to send separately, please let me know.  i would much prefer to put everything in one box, and not risk anything getting lost.

i will try to send out emails to everybody to confirm all of this

what a nightmare for everyone.  it really just confirms that i made the right decision in closing things up.  i just don't have the time to deal with this anymore.  it takes over 4 hours per kit to assemble everything.  with over 200 parts per kit, inventory management is huge.  i never got the time to really set things up at the new location, and consequently forgot little stuff more times than i can count.

anyway, this is finally coming to a close.

when i spoke to the sheet metal shop friday, they said the parts were en route to the powder coater.  that should only take a couple of days.  i am paying triple so as to rush this.  i expect to have the parts back, in the boxes, and everything on its way out to everybody by the end of the week.

i swear this has been the worst experience i have ever had putting something together.  the sheet metal shopped dragged and dragged, but finally got the stuff off to the powder coater.  it turns out they lost the bending instructions, and didn't want to admit it.  i had to go over it with them on the phone, and send them a new drawing.  just incredible.  anyway, the stuff is being delivered to the sheet metal shop tomorrow afternoon.  i pick it up thursday, but i have a lot going on that day, so that means i ship friday
