lol - assuming you don't "need" the SC is only because you haven't driven one.  as soon as you do, you realize how pathetic the OEM engine is without it.

frankly i'm a bit surprised that everybody hasn't jumped on this.  it's such a no brainer.  it's all but transparent in operation, brings the car up to date in power, and is a simple bolt on.  but then, countless thousands are satisfied with the camry, so i guess the wimpy OEM 968 engine is ok with people too.  maybe it's just that not everybody likes to drive fast?

Not everybody has an extra few thousand dollars lying around to spend on something like a car mod. And I can imagine that some would like to keep the car original, even if it's a bolt-on system.

That's like 8 cases of pretty good wine...choices my friend Smile

My mods bring me enough power that I "surprise" others at road rally, etc.

My car never goes on the track and I have enjoyed learning about momentum driving as opposed to horsepower.

As you know I have been back and forth on this, but at the end of the day, I don't drive the car enough to justify the expense. I know that those who spent the money have been exceptionally happy with the quality and performance of the kit and that you accomplished what so many said couldn't be done, or was done by others extremely poorly.

like i said - many find a camry to be fine.  i always found the 968 engine to be too wimpy.  from day 1 i knew i would not be happy.  i always planned to tear it apart and give it the power it needed.  i don't find ANY car with less power than a 10:1 ratio adequate.  if i didn't know that i could get the power out of it, i never would have bought it.  others don't mind the lack of power.  i don't get it, but i don't have to get it.

as for the money, people spend their money on what they want.  for me, the car i drive is a lot more important that a vacation or any other such expense.  it is pretty much at the top of my list.  i knew going in that i was going to spend at least $75k building the car.  that was fine with me.  again, i don't get having it any other way, but i don't have to either.

Is there more to say on this? Come on, Bob, give other people a break. It doesn't matter why not everybody has a SC. And it isn't something that a vendor should preach about either.

The cheaper alternative to buying a SC is to buy an old 924.

After an hour or two in that, jump in the 968 and hang on, you'll think your in a rocket ship.  3gears

I guess if you're stop light drag racing you might need more power, but I have always found the engine to supply more then enough for the roads I drive on.

If you're drag racing you need something other than a 968...not that I endorse stop light drag racing at all  :ninja:

I'm also stuck in the "choices" category. I'd love to have a SC, can't have too much HP, and this car can certainly handle it. But, my concience (i.e. wife) thinks I need to spend more slowly so I'm doing the incremental improvements. I'm afraid Bob will have wrapped it up before I can get there, and the last opportunity to do the last big thing will be gone forever. So don't anybody by the last SC before next year!

lol - i want more power in the X5M.  low end torque is useful all the time.  that's why i designed the kit the way i did.  it wasn't about drag racing or anything like that.  it wasn't about tracking either.  it was about driving to the grocery store, and having all the power i wanted.

The SC completes this car to what it should have been in the first place ; a perfect balance of form, function and performance.  And although the N/A 968 is still 80% of that, the D1R SC , as tuned , brings it to 100% .  But it's not ( and not meant to be ) a friggin' drag racer !   If you want that, buy another vehicle and power it up to 500 + HP, which with some other cars can be achieved rather cheap.
