Front Spring Info

It seems the front springs used in the MO30 & CS optioned cars are still available from Porsche. I sent an inquiry to Sunset Porsche to find out what the specifications are on these springs, [rate and diameter] and unfortunately they couldn't provide that information.

Does anyone know where this info is available? I checked the 968 Tech Spec. book to no avail. I know there are a few choices available from the various vendors, but the factory springs are only a little more expensive.

according to the shop manual on page 40-03:



the CS springs are 28N/mm with an 11.6mm dia wire and an O.D. of 106mm - same as stock, however, they are 24mm shorter than those in a hatchback, and 32mm shorter than those in a cab



the M030 springs are also 28N/mm, but the wire diameter goes from 12.2mm to 12.7mm, and the outside diameter goes from 124mm to 110 mm, indicating they are somewhat progressive rate

Who knows why specific info like that isn't in the "Technical Specification" Book[??] <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

where would you stop? what would you include and exclude? would you print a ROW and a US version? perhaps they did not want to get into litigation over advertising claims that could be implied from a technical specifications book

For a service manual I'd think most would stop at [of just include] serviceable parts. For example struts are wear parts and therefore would require re-torquing, a spec would be needed.

Springs are not typically replaced unless they sag or break [some last the life of the car] and most would use an OEM replacement spring, so spring rate is not really a service level spec.. No worries, just as long as it's available somewhere...

well, except that ride height is determined by springs and their spec, so to properly set that, which is specified in the manual, you'd need to know what "normal" is, right? even though only rear height was adjustable, the front height is affected by rear height - having now set my ride height a dozen or so times, i can tell you how much of a pain that little reality is

I suppose. My main point was how I found it odd that the info was not included in a Tech spec. book.. There are 3 OEM springs and there's little or nothing in the Spec book about them[?].

yeah - that book doesn't have a lot of stuff - it really wasn't a tech spec book as much as a sales tool
