So for those with grandkids the 968 is not for sale at any price, the grandson or granddaughter gets to inherit it. With the provision they will pass it on to their grandkids ! Just like a fine swiss watch , you never really "own" a 968 you merely keep it running for the next generation. Ha, now that's delusional, lol ! :-)

Not sure I would sell at this point. But when/if maintenance costs exceed the joy of owning. I could see it. Just saying.

Not that delusional. My 8 year old grand daughter, who refers to my 968 as gramps hot rod, has dibs on it already and thinks I should buy Grammy a red cab! To put in the new garage of course. Hot rod was ok but Gramps. Man that's a bit of a tough pill to swallow sometimes because of ego/age. So forget passing it on, spend spend now! Might as well before the socialists take away from those of us who work and have!!

You are so right about the Socialists!!! A friend of a friend saved up for years to buy his dream car, a 1997 993 Twin Turbo. Finally got one in pristine condition, out in CA. Took his wife to pick ut up and do a vacation drive home... stopped in Vegas for a night and put the TT in the security garage at Bellagio... next morning he gets a call from Security... Some dickwad had taken a blunt instrument and literally beat the crap out of the entire Porsche! And guess what? NO security video of the event! How strange is that??? The prevailing attitude is "If I can't have it, you aren't going to either!" Of course this attitude is supported by our lovely Government... the Rich must pay for the Poor... More like the wealthy must support the lazy, but over my very dead body! Lock and Load boys, they are acomin'!!

Rant done; back to topic... I sort of like the idea of passing the old girl down to my son( or daughter), if he/she is a car guy (which he is)... we don't agree on everything but at least he hasn't made me support himm and three kids yet! ;>))

Of course one would hope that the person receiving a 968 would dig getting it! Hope your buddy had the hotel cover the damage?

I got this via email, slightly off topic but true never-the-less;

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

6. Socialism ends when you run out of spending other peoples money.

It is just as bad here is Australia (possibly worse) as we have a socialist Labour government. All we get is Peter Pan in reverse, where the Government gets to apply more and more taxes to keep the population poor and waste our money. In the real Robin Hood, it was taking from the Government (or officials of the day who were oppressive) and give back to those who the funds were taken from.

Yea right. I can't stand all those people in the ghetto who choose to not work when they can easily hop in their limos and go to their $200K/year jobs, the lazy SOBs! I worked my ass off to be born to parents who could afford to send me to college. So you didn't pick the right parents? You weren't born into a culture that values education? That's obviously your own damn fault. Tough nooggies. And why should corporations have to pay any taxes anyway? This is America, where a small business succeeds or fails based on the effort put into it, and a large business succeeds, or else the gov't will give it millions of dollars. How dare all those lowlife's begrudge a hard working guy his $10 million dollar "bail out"?

Anybody think that maybe politics doesn't belong on this site?

I personally enjoy the dialogue as long as we maintain respect for other points of view. Vigorous debate is healthy and at the end of the day we should still be able to go out and have a cold one. (The City Tavern, in Society Hill, Philadelphia, is one of those places and times when this worked....)

IMO, that is one of the big problems in Washington and as an outgrowth, around the country today. They battle, mostly posture, but don't respect one and other and see themselves as playing for different teams. Demonizing and labeling is almost always a convenient and simple way to dismiss views different from our own infallible beliefs. A "victory" is no longer a compromise where everyone gets something and we all move forward, instead of gridlock. Again, IMO, our democratic republic was conceived with the idea that a vigorous debate is healthy and opposing points of view come together for the betterment of America.

yup - as much of an arrogant opinionated ass as i can be, even i get to speak my mind without getting blasted too badly. i'd like to think that others can do the same thing. we've had some really good discussions on some topics that, on other sites, would have quickly degraded into a name-calling shouting match. yet here, things have remained very civil. the discussions have been very informative, and have even caused me to change my thinking on occasion.

so, keep it up guys. have at it.

Sheesh, it would be a lot more civilized if we just stuck to the Scarlett debate ( sorry.. "sticking" to Scarlett may not have been the best choice of words here :-) ) then divert into political debates. Start a new thread for that dammit, this one is about the price of our cars...and women. :-)

Speaking of capitalism, distribution of wealth, and wasting money.. Playboy confirmed they paid Lindsay Lohan $ 1 mil. to pose in the upcoming December issue. The fools.. $ 1 million to have her get naked ?! All they had to do is buy her a drink..

How does the old adage go??? "Your freedom ends when your fist touches the end of my nose".... I totally agree that everyone is not born equal, even under law. The point made however, is that birth, parentage, socio economic factors, education, etc. do not give anyone the right to violate my space, or take anything from me that I do not freely choose to give. If you believe that you do have the right to take, then that is where we part company!

As a child, I went to school every day, which in Upstate New York winters, meant walking nearly a mile in snow up th the ass of a tall horse, just to catch a cold old school bus. After the normal hours of education, I got to walk back to the farm, change clothes and clean out the gutters for 35 Holstiens, then work another three hours to get the milk in the cans, feed the beasts and finally get some supper, just in time to do homework, catch a few hours sleep in a freezing old farmhouse, and do it all over again! Today, that would be called child abuse! Back then, it was doing what you had to do to stay alive! Yeah, the old man would have done better to take the LC Smith off the wall and go rob a bank or somebody, but he didn't... he worked for his, and that meant we all worked for ours... we have choices in this life... you either make the right ones or the wrong ones. Just don't try and justify making the wrong choices because you were born into the wrong culture, family, or whatever... you have the freedom of choice... easy way or hard way... that is up to you!

All this rant was brought on by the events of last night... my neighbor is a decent sort, who keeps a Boss 429 under a tarp in front of his garage, and we have discussed restoring it many timmes, which he swears he will do someday (yes, it is pretty rough, but anything is possible with the new parts cominng out of Dynacorn these days!) So about 12:30 AM his security alarm goes off.. apparently someone decided they were going to "help themsleves" to the car or parts thereof... The dumbasses ran down the drive, jumped into what appeared to be a Dodge Minivan, backed straight into a fire hydrant (almost broke it off the standpipe), spun around and went right thru MY front yard at top speed, throwing my lawn all over hell's half acre... Neither Bob nor I even got a shot off!!!

I doubt we will ever see them again, but it just irritates the hell out of me to know that there are buttwipes that will do this and not think twice about it... a month ago, we had a local college professor killed in his home ( and his wife seriously injured) during a home invasion... the perp was so messed up that he couldn't even figure out why he was in the Prof's house!!! Stabbed him with a kitchen knife, but that was all it took! Bled out before the ambulance got there...of course, the perp got away and no idea who or where he is!

So yes, if we need to move this to a separate thread, I am all for it, but this discussion needs to be had... Ever since before Ghengis Khan, there have always been the "good guys and the bad guys"... if we lay back and start feeling sorry for the criminal element because they had a "rough" young life, they will happily run right over us! And it is getting close to that sort of attitiude... the police can't and won't provide protection... once your government abdicates, then the next step is anarchy... yeah, I know...just keep saying "It won't happen to me!" Good luck to that!!!

Taking from others, hurting others, damaging property, or any crime of that nature has NO excuses, IMO ; not poverty, not abuse, nothing.

So I suppose one could argue that the government taking anything from you is no different, not any lesser a "crime", yet it's difficult to come to terms with large investors with holdings in the tens or hundreds of millions driving companies and CEOs , who incidentally may take in an obscene amount of money in the very same timeline when they lay off employees leaving families in total chaos with mortgages due and little prospect for future employment, and outsourcing jobs not to save the company from financial challenges, but rather just for the sole reason of maximizing profits. Greed is not good, greed is destructive in every way and touches every aspect of life and well being of the greater population.

I have personally seen this happen over and over, and for every example I see, there are thousands more out there. I have no issues with anyone making a s-load of money and finding every legal loophole to minimize their taxes, but not at the expense of millions of others, especially when there is no compelling reason for it. And no, I not do I like my tax dollars going to programs that are nothing more than handouts either, but then again I don't want my taxes spent on 90% of what the government, past and present, republican or democrat have and are spending them on, but I have no choice in the matter and voting does not change s***, so I simply gave up bitching and learned to live with it.

Some moderation is needed, and I don't have solutions but labeling any and all attempts to cap unreasonable excess as "socialism" , or try to fix completely broken medical systems as un-American, or uber- Liberal, is a bit misguided, IMO. Funny comment my co-worker who is a year from retirement made the other day ; he said he'd rather leave this country before the slightest bit of socialism takes hold here. Ironically he is a steadfast believer in Social Security, and looking forward to his Medicare, so I asked him how he

categorizes those.. He's still working on formulating a response ..;-)

I don't think we're even close ( yet ) to the OT ranks of many other threads I've seen in the past...but could very well eventually get there , especially when opinions and debate on politics becomes the side track to any given topic.

DS socialism is just an ideology. Not necessarily good or bad. Depends on ones perspective. I agree that labeling someone as unAmerican is a label that is divisive and not conducive to discourse. Societies have discussed taxation forever. No one is happy paying taxes and no one ever is ever satisfied that the amount they have paid is fair or even equitable. Me included. Taxes are the glue that hold societies together and keeps them running. Remember " no taxation without representation"? When less than 50 percent of people vote in local, state and national elections is it really any wonder that we have elected officials who are so disconnected with its citizenry. The number of votes one needs to win an election is disconcertingly low. We are an unattached citizenry who have decided voting is a waste of time because it ultimately makes no difference. What a bunch of uninformed crap. Think about the number of lives that have been expended, yes expended, to give us this privilege. And people have the unmitigated gaul to complain. Hey guys, how many among us vote in every election? Voting is a vital function of a working democracy. Want to understand why we are where we are at today. Track citizen participation at the voting booths. These wall street occupiers scare the living bejesus out of me. Taking over public places leaves me with a cold pit in my stomach. Very few of these views do I support. Other than the right to do it peacefully. How many of these people do you think vote? They exercise what is arguably the greatest right we possess, the right to free speech, but fail to exercise the next greatest right, the privilege to vote. There will always be the poor. It is a function of the living humanity. How we decide to deal with this issue is a matter that we the people need to decide. I agree one has the right to defend ones self and property.
