Clutch / Flywheel Suggestions?
#21

This topic is a few years old now, but I recently ran into a gentleman who had owned a 968 for a few years and sold it to a friend. The clutch "went" and the car has been sitting for 8 years because a new clutch is not available. That agrees with the posts above. If I may summarize, If one wants to replace his clutch with as close as possible to a stock setup, he should use a 964 pressure plate with a green stripe, a stock 968 clutch disk and if he needs a flywheel, he should get a one piece flywheel( preferably from the RS Barn-but I think Pete is no longer operating) from Firdanza along with an S2 damper pulley. Is this more or less correct? Thanks.

who said 968 clutch kits were not available ?! i know there was a brief period when the DMF was thought to be NLA, but i understand it's avialable once again ( or at least it was last year..)

I bought my new stock DMF about 2 years ago.

I also thought the green marked pressure plates are for the 968 and blue ones for the 964??

the OEM parts, including the flywheel, are still available the last time i checked, with no shortage foreseeable.

green is for the 968. it doesn't help that the blue they use is a blue/green

the fidanza flywheels, from whatever source, require a modification to be safe. discussion of this is shown here in another area. search is your friend.

I just had a new clutch installed on my coupe. No issues with sourcing a clutch kit.

the issue is that the only source for the pressure plate and flywheel is the dealer. sunset imports is the cheapest of them

I've had a vibration issue for awhile and finally narrowed it down to the DMF. No one in the U.S. seems to have it. There are sites that say they have it on stock but when you call them they don't have any left and they call Porsche dealers and they don't have it. Looked at singleass flywheel options as they are much cheaper but I drive strictly on the street and drive everyday so I don't want to chance having noise or chatter at any rpm. I decided to go with OEM and ordered the DMF from Deutschland. Normal shipping can take up to 5 weeks so I had to expedite shipping. Higher cost but in the end I'll be happier with an OEM part for my driving needs.

Just picked up my car today after replacing the flywheel with an OEM unit. It's so smooth now, I can't believe how bad it was. No more headlight shaking, no more shifter buzz. Feels like a different car. The DMF was pricey though at $1100 for part only.
