Engine cover P O R S C H E inlays

Got mine on Saturday. Too late for Newtown. I am confused by the directions. They seem to be for installing trim on the dash. It would seem that you peel off the backing and they just stick on the cam cover but the back doesn't want to come off easily. What am I missing?

Never mind. I got the backing off and installed them on the cam cover. It looks great. It will be interesting to see how it sticks when the engine gets hot. For now, I'm good. Next project.

If the paint is holding very well then there is no need to remove it before attaching the letters. My cover and valve cover have been powdercoated and the letters are holding just fine. If there are places where your paint is flaking off, I would remove it prior to attaching the letters. If you decide to remove the paint, lacquer thinner will probably work well. Remove the cover from the engine and there will be less chance of the thinner getting places you did not want it. Masking off the cover prior to removing the paint would also be a good idea. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Ok just got my cover power coated semi gloss black and added the Jager brushed aluminum letters...

question on reinstall (becuase its been so long since I took it off and didn't take a picture first... :o ) I have eight (8) washers (not counting the two that are attached to the bolts that go on drivers side...not the vario cam badge) - I'm guessing the stack between the cover and the engine but if someone can remember off the top of their head or take a quick look at theirs I would appreciate it...pictures once its installed

Thanks Sam

Ok here's some pix of what I've got... as you can see I have 8 washers that came off when I removed the cover

You certainly do not need any of the washers... Are the two rubber dampers still there? Maybe the washers were stacked up to replace them or something.

either that, or he has a 92 intake manifold, which differs on the driver side where the screws go in.

Flash,

pressurized air cleaner? I don't know what your referring too - unless its those two other boxes sitting in the garage... Huh

which would invoke the need to move another thread...

has anyone tried to powder coat the letters into the cover. If so then you could do any color you wanted to do and they should last forever?

Williamoss, I powder coated the letters on my cover, a guards red (almost). Still looks good. I had to do a little cleanup of over spray that was out side the letter recesses. But that scraped off without too much work.

Again, recognizing my limitations and wanting to clean up my vanity cover, I have a simple question.  I have the D1R strut brace installed which prevents me from removing the vanity cover.  If I just remove the two bolts that hold the bar between the two mounts, will they simply bolt back in without the need for any adjustments?

I appreciate your help!

Yes, piece of cake. Note the orientation of the bar before you remove it.

Thanks! I'll take pictures of the bar and, hopefully, not break anything
