Engine cover P O R S C H E inlays
#41

I'm also just received a reply from an E-Mail I sent Veronique (what a lovely name) and she said they made a mistake in assuming the 968 and the 944 letters were the same. She said to return (not yet received) and they will send corrected ones. I was hoping to have them on for the Grand Am race at VIR but will have to wait. RATS!

COSIMO,

She told me to save the postage and keep 'em for a 944 friend. I'd hold on before you post them back to BC, Canada!

What is your drop dead date? I think that we are only looking at days.

good news !! nice work, and ditto on great response from the vendor.

staying tuned and will order my sets as soon as updated fit is available.

By the time I learned of this site I had already ordered the interior " wood " trim

kit from elsewhere - they also said it's laser cut, so it should be a perfect fit.

we'll see...

Make sure that when you attach the pieces that you center the buttons, glove box knob, etc hor. and vert. I aligned with the closest edge of the dash piece...wrong. They hold back the top and the bottom, and not always the same distance, so you must align to the bits that poke through.

Well, I just got my letters in the mail and they do not fit on the engine or on the Rear of the car. Have sent the company an email to resolve the problem. I am sending them back and requesting a refund or the letters which fit. Sorry, Bob Blackwell.

Just heard from Paul at Jager Engineering who sell the letters. (pjager@jageng.com website: www.jageng.com) They were not aware that the letters did not fit and are in the process of making new letters to fit the 968 engine cover. Will exchange all incorrect ones for correct ones as soon as possible. good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I just received another E-MAil from Veronique stating NOT to send the letters back but give them to a 944 owner. Very generous. They will send the new letters for the 968.

Thanks Etnier for getting Veronique a cover to build from!

I removed, cleaned and painted my cover so that the black letters would have a suitable place to live.

Sure thing. I also took pains to let them know about the strut tower bar clearance issues: I suggested the lettering should not have an unnecessarily high profile.

The letters that Veronique send me appear to be 3/16th thick, plus they sit in the recess on the cover.

Looking at your picture, it seems that your bar is MUCH closer that mine.

Is this an indicator of bad engine mounts, or are there variations?

What are the clearances for the rest of you?

there definitely are variations - this has been a huge problem - i have a bit more than that, but not enough to actually clear - roughly .060" - the bar has worked a groove in my vanity cover, that must now be replaced, and the bar itself shows wear too

i'm fairly surprised that there is not the same wear on that one, since i have even more clearance - perhaps time to check my mounts - maybe i have side to side movement

From Veronique-
Quote:The letters rise above the top of the injector rail cover by .05" but due to the foam adhesive and the flexibility of the protective polyurethane coating, the letters will squish down from the weight and pressure of the steel bar.

has anyone considered lindsey racing's version of the supermounts? (sorry, i know it's a tangent of a tangent of something relative to this thread) they have options to drop the engine down 5mm or 10mm. this could give some additional clearance with the strut tower brace.

Well, I measured the clearance between my brace and the top of the cover and it is 0.145"

Does this mean that I have compressed mounts that need replacing?

It is hard for me to believe that KLA would still be selling these braces if they all damaged covers on 968's.

Anyone else care to measure and reply?

Is there anything else that could alter engine height other than motor mounts or broad tolerances?

Silvy- one thing to keep in mind (if you didn't already know this) is that you can gain quite a bit of clearance by how you install the injector rail cover itself. Having started the screws, IIRC it's best to push the cover away from you and down towards the driver's side as you tighten them. That might help right there.

Got email from Veronique last night: they are doing a test run of the letters today and will see how they fit on the cover I sent up there.

From Veronique-

"…the test set fit nicely so i am packing up your injector rail cover and will be shipping it back

…please note that the 'H' fits better one way than the other (it's not quite symmetrical)."
