Leaky part
#1

The circled edge of this part seems to drip a little. I would think that a gasket needs replaced. What part is this? Anyone have a part # for the gasket?

Thanks

Josh

Josh, it looks like the balance shaft cover to me. Do not have the part number, but Sunset or any other Porsche Dealer will have it for sure. Good luck, bob Blackwell.

Is this one of the areas that people have used sealants on, rather than changing the gasket?

Wether you use a sealant (Permatex Formagasket) or a new gasket, I would remove the cover, clean off the old gasket material and install a new gasket or run a good bead of sealant then reinstall the cover. You may think that you can just smear some sealant around the leaking part of the cover and be finished.........not likely. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Here is another thread on the subject. http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtop...e+shaft+housing

The consensus is that it is not easy to remove that cover.

Thanks for the info, I'll just deal with it for now.

Yup, all the seals on these cars become a victim of age, doesn't seem to be very mileage dependent.

If you do go in after this one, you may wish to contemplate other items in the area. Labor costs / time kinda drive one in the direction of "batching" these fixes where practical and most needed.

Good luck.
