I noticed some cracks -or something that looks very similar- in the engine part that supports the crankshaft. Are they supposed to be there (manufacturing process?) or should I be worried?



It's the horizontal marks on the vertical 'supports'.

I think what you are talking about are casting marks on the main bearing caps. I have never seen a cracked main cap, but the forces being as they are on a bearing cap, if they were going to crack, the cracks would be on the top of the web, not in the valley.

I also noticed that the ones who got info on them (like the right one in the bottom pic; the other one shows the partnr) do not have these marks.
