A have to share story: so last weekend, before the self-changing oil incident , I was driving Bob's car on Crown Valley Parkway, a beautiful three lane ( in each direction ) boulevard over hills and valleys with stop lights every quarter mile or so. Leaving each of the stop lights we both heard this brief exhaust note at what seemed to be a consistent rpm range which sounded like a loud fart in a tin can full of pop corn. This happened about three consecutive times and I could see Bob's face just trying to figure out what the heck is going on, but niether one of us saying a thing about it. I'm thinking he has a pin size leak somewhere in the exhaust, but not sure.. maybe it just sounds crappy for only 200 or 400 rpms worth in first gear only, he knows about it and is fine with it
Bob however, is thinking WTF is wrong with my system I thought I finally got right after a dozen changes ?! .
But again, not a word from either one of us. Suddenly, the car in the lane right next to us slows down and moves to the far right lane, revealing a Hoda "ricer" with ( you got it ) a tin can fart exhaust which was being driven in that obscured lane all along, leaving the stop lights at the same time we were, ergo the synchronized sound.. Both Bob and I looked at one another at the same moment with a " aahh, there it is " knowing nod of the head and a smile.. ( and perhaps a sigh of relief from him )
So before you panic about noises you think you hear your car makes, look around.. the ears can play tricks on you
