Tickets for driving too slowly in the left lanes?
#1

Georgia's 'Slow Poke' bill moves step closer to reality

http://www.usatoday....vances/6298233/

"ATLANTA – Interstate dawdlers, beware.

The Georgia Legislature approved a measure today that would allow police to ticket those driving too slowly in the left lanes on the state's highways and interstates.

The "slow poke" bill would require any driver on a divided highway to move to the right – even if they're driving at the speed limit — when a vehicle going faster comes up from behind, or face a misdemeanor charge

"

What do you guys think?

It is also the law in California, the left lanes are ONLY for passing, never for driving. If you are not passing, you are required to move to the right. But I've never heard it being enforced.

I know I've seen some awfully angry people on the freeway when they are blocked by inconsiderate drivers in the left lane, or even the 2nd left lane. Often they pull some really risky moves passing on the right, endangering drivers who are not involved. Maybe this would save some trouble and accidents.

Of course it makes me recall driving in Germany, on the autobahn, where you drive as much in the rear view mirror as you do through the windshield. Those headlights that appear to be about 2 miles back can be on your bumper in 10 seconds.

Yes, in Germany and Austria they will ticket you if you don't move over. Perhaps it's time to do that here as well. I don't want people to drive beyond their abilities or the mechanical limits of their vehicle, but if they create a dangerous situation I believe it is worthy of a stop and perhaps even a ticket. We came upon a wicked accident on the Autobahn caused by a fast driver who encountered a slow driver in the wrong lane. It was ugly, but it was a wakeup call to get over to the right.

In Nevada it's the sanctimonious Prius driver, but they pale in comparison to the bitter Subaru Forester drivers in Oregon. They block you in and glare as you pass, that is, if you are lucky enough to get the chance.

I dare any state to top New Jersey minivan drivers. Whenever you see a line of cars moving 50 in the fast lane anywhere on the East Coast, it is ALWAYS lead by a NJ minivan...

I believe in the unregulated use of Photon torpedoes to eliminate left lane hijackers <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

It will be very interesting to see how the law addresses the " even if you're going at the speed limit " aspect and how those cases will be treated in court when the slowpoke is cited for not yielding the lane to either actual drivers exceeding the speed limits or for simply potential speeders. I agree with everyone here whether it's the minivan, or Prius or Camry those numbskulls are infuriating and while most do that because they are completely clueless I would not be surprised if many may do that deliberately ( Prius drivers in particular ) just to underscore their sanctimony . But again, if statutorily you can be given a ticket for going too slow while driving the maximum speed limit, I think that law will likely open up a whole new can of worms

Even if it becomes law, how many of these idiots will pay attention to it? I hate these slow pokes as much as the next guy, but you can't cure stupid.

Unfortunately, a good percentage of drivers believe the rear view mirror is for either applying make-up, or checking for spinach in your teeth. Otherwise, it is the automotive equivalent of the appendix.

I think I Germany the law says " you must not Impede another vehicle", that why they move back over almost immediately and a lot of the autobahn areas limit trucks and cars towing trailers to the right lane only.

Whenever I visit CA there are always slow cars in the left lane, even in AZ the slow pokes in the left lane often have CA plates. It seems the CHP doesn't care about that law.
