Driveway dip solutions with splitter?
#21

Oh Canada has not suffered as much from the recession as we have and no doubt the fact that California is in a continual budget crisis must make our Northern friends think our roads are in disrepair! Or perhaps it's the excuse given to the wives to account for the need for a paint job.

I drove down to Portland last week and the I-5 is in reasonable shape, but some of the secondary roads have been neglected.

i'm working on the delrin skid plates for my splitter. template done. i just haven't had a minute to get them made.

After finally getting my car on the road last night after a two year hiatus I set off down my street being careful not to damage the new splitter. I crossed an intersection (not a driveway mind you) and bottomed it out. It's LOW! Any further work on the delrin skid plates. I'm interested.

lol - it's really not low as much as it is way out front. porsche front ends are long.

now that my car is back together and i can start driving it, i am motivated to get back onto that project. i am finishing up a remodel stage, but should be done before labor day. then i can get back to the splitter stuff. it won't take me long once i can get back onto it. i have an extra splitter for my car, so i don't even have to lift the car up to do it.

i'll be posting here about it as things develop. i can't track and notify everybody individually at this time. i just don't have that database set up like that yet. i need to get my office assistant in here to update the address book so i can mass contact all splitter owners. there are an awful lot of them though, and doing it individually would take forever.

Ha, you should have see the speed bumps at Paso eh Bob? Those 5 or 6 blocks leaving the hotel; crossing the intersections at a 45 in some places!

That's what convinced me to not get a spoiler. I thought everyone ahead of me was scrubbing their tires to warm them up for the high speed run, but then I realized they were just swerving like crazy to drive over those little drainage ditches or "speed dips" without tearing off their splitters!

Pay attention to the roadway, think where your going to drive, and you will only hit then occasionally. They are really quite durable. You now call Ayn your office assistant. How can you possibly afford her and is she aware of her new title? I guess this is another example of how difficult it is for degreed people to find jobs that match their degrees! Lol

lol - nope. not a chance. i actually have people who work for me. i just haven't put my office assistant on the phone book project yet. i'm actually going to have to hire another one to change over my entire accounting system and cross reference all of my old files. i've been working on some really old software that is no longer supported.

once i get all that done, then it will be a simple thing to notify all of the splitter owners.

+1 Rap - look ahead, pay attention and you hardly ever hit.

Tama - We were warming our tires, that's why we were in the fast pack! Seriously, I noticed the high speed difference right away with the splitter.

So far, I haven't hit anything on the road that has caused my splitter to scrape, but I've been hauling out a large piece of plywood to use as a ramp every time I have to leave or enter my driveway. It is physically impossible to get up my driveway any other way, no matter how steep my approach angle. I've tried backing up on the sidewalk and driving with two wheels on the sidewalk, and then angling it up onto the driveway, and that works, but is very risky, and I'm afraid I'll wear out my clutch on no time, so I quickly abandoned that approach.

I just got some stuff from Lowes that you can apply like paint to existing concrete, which supposedly allows fresh concrete to be poured on top of it. I'd like to use this to fill in the ridiculously steeply raked dip where my driveway meets the curb, but I think I should get approval from the HOA first, lest they make me jackhammer it up. We'll see,,,

I would move away from the HOA - lol

Those people rarely help matters...

I live out in country land so I could have a splitter with little effort other than coughing up the simoleons...I think Flash has gotten enough of my cash flow this year...I have to wait on anything else cosmetic until next year...I still can't keep the thing out of the garage for more than a week...Why didn't you guys warn me - lol

Consider yourself now warned! Enjoy your car. I'm driving 2 hours today to drop it off for some routine checking. After three, three day events it's time for a look see. It's endless. But as of now, that's ok. PITA though, first Saturday I've been home in a month and I've got to drive to NJ. At least it will be a nice morning for a drive!
