Yeah, they look nice, and I like the fact they are one piece per side instead of two like the OEMs.

I'll email you the contact at Strosek in Germany. She's who has been giving me all the info.

The splitter is reasonably priced - just hope shipping isn't too bad.

What's your opinion on the splitter?

looks good - very similar to mine - just want to see if it wraps around underneath like mine, and see how it mounts - the outside corners are weak points, and mine are reinforced with encapsulated aluminum to handle the stress - i'd like to see what they did

Jim,

Let us know when you get a shipping cost. If not too bad I would love to do the rockers and splitter. I people went in on a group buy, the cost of shipping could be way less.

sometimes - depends on where they are all going - getting them boxed up so they don't get damaged is expensive (remember that these are fiberglass not PU), and often ends up being about the same as a one-off

i hate paying for shipping - makes me nutty how much it costs

Will do Ryan.

Should have an estimate tomorrow.

I might be willing to coordinate a group buy and I could probably get a decent rate on shipping since I could have everything shipped to my office via "freight". Then it would be simple to get them delivered around the US.

I'll see what they quote me for individual shipping, then I can ask if they would do a group buy order of some sorts. I'm a little hesitant because I wouldn't want to get stuck short-changed... so we'll see.

lol - yeah, that can happen - it got more expensive than i thought when i did the splitter group buy a couple of years ago - between the euro shifting on me before i could buy them, and the packaging needed to ship them undamaged, it got quite a bit pricier than i originally thought

True, true. That's sort of why I am interested in getting the Strosek now- the Euro has dropped a little lately. A few months back, it was flirting with 1.60, now it's back down in the low 1.30's. Since our parent company is based in Germany, the Euro vs. dollar fluctuation has really hit us hard in the first half of '08. Now that it is back down, we are doing better...

Personally.

I think the Strosek car looks hideous...

Why mess with an already good looking car...???

Porsche did a great job ...

The 968 TS splitters are good looking + funtional items, ie they flex if "curbed" , NOT shatter like Glassfibre...

It must be a taste thing....IE us Brits have taste.....

well, some of us are function over form and some of us are form over function - some of us want both

i happen to think the Porsche Motorsport splitter looks unfinished and stuck on like a cheap piece of plastic that was an afterthought - it may be functional, and it may absorb some impacts, but i can tell you for sure that it doesn't handle them well, and still requires repainting after a decent one, no matter how much flex you put in the paint

while fiberglass is more fragile by nature than polyurethane, it is the design that is the key to success - the "lip" design is flawed - that's why the fiberglass replicas fail, and why the original one is subject to the same problems - the fact that it has an edge is the flaw - it need to be a unit that completely wraps around underneath, leaving no edge to catch on anything

the one i have does that, and it is MUCH better at taking impacts, even on my lowered car - the strosek unit looks like it may be the same way

while i don't like the big blown out look of the flared car in general, and really don't like the hatch replacement, wishing they had done a true coupe drop in unit, i do like that they eliminated those stupid creases on the side of the car through the door - i only wish they had finished the job and gotten rid of the ridge above it, and the dumb concave quarterpanel

i think the side skirts and splitter on the standard body car look pretty darned good, and certainly better than the OEM stuff, and if that side skirt can be made functional, i think i'm in

to each his own eh?

Well, Fred Opert Racing is no longer a bad guy in my book.... Looks like their pricing is *reasonable* relatively speaking.

I got the shipment quote from Strosek - 280 Euros for air freight to Philly airport. Does not include taxes, duty and handling! Then I think I would be responsible for getting the splitter from the airport to my house / office. I am bummed. If you factor in the exchange rate, the quote Ryan got from Fred Opert is on the money, and probably overall less than going direct from Strosek since Ryan's quote appears to be "door to door".

Here's the kicker: the packaging for the splitter is 190cm x 60cm x 50cm and it weighs 95kg!!!!! Whoa! So, it must be more than just a fiberglass splitter- that alone probably only weighs 15kg max. So this thing is probably a complete undertray with integrated splitter.

I'm going to look into a few more options and see if I can do a work around on the shipping, but one thing is clear- I respectfully withdrawl my name from the list (if there is one!) of people who might want to organize a group buy.

Maybe Fred Opert would be willing to do a group buy and arrange for shipping? If I can save a few bucks there, I'd be seriously interested...

Signed,

Bummed

dave - i wasn't doing any slamming - i didn't take a harsh tone - this had nothing to do with you - i was not really responding to you in particular, but rather a more general expression of my point of view on the entire topic - i merely suggested that different people like different things, and pointed out the thing i like and don't like about the kits, as well as ups and downs of fiberglass and PU, and what i thought of the motorsport unit and the porsche design in general

bummed - i too am surprised at the cost of shipping and the weight - something amiss there - that unit should weigh about 4 kilos and even if it was shipped in a wood crate, wouldn't go over 50 lbs or 23 kilos - i think i would do some more homework on that one before giving up

Workin' on it. 209 lbs is a lot of wood and fiberglass!

I email Strosek to ask why the weight is so much - is it due to the splitter being a complete unit inclusive of an undertray, is there more to it, etc.? I also asked for a picture of the unit itself and installation instructions if they can provide them...

I'm not sure why I opened this thread, as I have no interest in a splitter (well, at least not until I decide to make my car a dedicated track car...NOT!!!). Anyway, Fred Opert Racing is less than 5 minutes from where I live, so if I can help with anything, feel free to ask.

Really, Wow, that kinda harsh and a 180 from what you thought when we put the group buy together..[?!]. Back then it was all positive remarks - almost a sales pitch - almost the best thing since sliced bread. Your welcome to opinion, but c'mon it's not that bad. Considering how many people have the PU splitter and paid good $ for them, [it's by no means "cheap"] - some may consider your words borderline offensive. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

IMO cars that utilize factory performance parts raise the value of the car in most cases when compared to an aftermarket part. Sometimes DIY or aftermarket parts detract from the overall look and are not that much more functional; of course this is subjective. The factory splitter is designed more for a track car not a street car that goes in & out of driveways and therefore doesn't incorporate a rounded leading edge.

Obviously to each his own...
